Hard work to develop a more con
sistent defense was the keynote of
Varsity football practice Tuesday

Scrimmage with the reserves was
the program. The second tesm was
given the ball for most of the prac
tice but failed to make any great
gains through the Varsity line.
During a short period when the
Varsity was on offense, Al Blood
good, regular quarterback, ran
through the whole reserve team 70
yards to a touchdown.
Another thing stressed in practice
was goal kicking. Last Saturday
against Colgate the Varsity made
five touchdowns but only one goal
was kicked. These extra points prove
Taluable at times, and the coaches
wish to take no more chances on

Football Games Last Week Were
Full of Thrills and Sensations
Football fans who thronged the
stadiums and football fields last Sat
urday saw some of the greatest per
formances that they will have an op
portunity to witness this season.
Gamus all over the country were
closely contested or filled with action
and thrills every minute of pay.
The most spectacular game played
last Saturday was undouVedly the
Illini-Michigan fray in w'lch Illinois
triumphed over the Yost team 84 to
14, firmly establishing herself as one
of the strongest teams In the tilg

well in their game with Southern
California, losing the game 17 to 8.
However, the true strength of the Ag
gies cannot be judged at this time,
as the U. S. C. game was their first

Varsity and novice tracks tcrs will
be given a chance to compete for
track numeral awards Wednesday af
ternoon in a special track-and-field
meet The Wednesday neet has been
called following the large turnout
and success of the first annual Octo
ber Games held last Saturday morn
ing. It is expected that the number
of athletes taking part in the numeral
Competition Wednesday afternoon
will exceed the number of turnouts
last week-end.
Records made during the meet on
this afternoon will count as pre
records for numeral awards next
spring and will give every Varsity
man and novice a chance to take ad
vantage of the exceptional fall
weather. Nearly a hundred track
prospects have been working out
daily during the past week on the
Stadium track, and from the marks
sfaown in the October games the
tracksters are in good shape for ear
ly f all.

day, being assisted by ex-track-captain
