Practice to work up a defense for
Oklahoma's pet plays, as outlined by
Coach Frank, was the chief business
of the Cornhuskers Wednesdsy eve
ning. The Freshmen, using Old
noma's passes and line drives, demon'
strated to the Cornhuskers what they
might expect at Norman.
The practice for the last week has
been mainly to develop a stronger of
fense. A little work to bring back
the fine defense that was shown in
the Illinois game was considered nec
essary.
Collins, Varsity end, and Molien,
tackle, who have been out because of
injuries, were back in the lineup.
Robertson and Collins were at ends,
Molien and Captain Weir at tackles,
Hubka and J. Weir at guards, Wos-
toupal at center, Rhodes and Man
dery at halfbacks, Myers at fullback,
and Bloodgood at quarter.
Hutchinson, Nebraska center, who
received a broken collar bone early in
the Illinois fame, was on the field
and watched practice.
Considerable practice in passing
and kicking was included in the eve
ning's program. ' Coach Dawson was
working Bloodgood and A. Mandery
at place-kicking. Both are develop
ing into good kickers and may add
Mints to Nebraska's total by this
method.
The Huskers had the experience of
working on a wet field. The practice
field was sodden and little in the way
of speed could be displayed.
Locke and Mielenz, halfbacks,
were still on the injured list with bad
ankles and did little in the practice.

First Round of Competition
Will Start as Soon as Courts

Drawings for the women's fall ten
nis tournament were made yester
day evening and the first round will
start as soon as the courts are in
condition. The matches this year
are to start with games between
members ef the classes. From these
players the best will be selected to
represent their class in an inter-class
tournament
A Ranking Ten, the best players in
the University, will be chosen by the
outcome of these matches. The play
ers will hold their positions only so
long as they defend the titles against
those who challenge them.
Anyone desiring to be placed will
be permitted to challenge the lowest
of the Ranking Ten and if she wins
two out of three sets she will then
hold tenth place. In the same way
each member will be able to advance
from on place to another higher.
Any person having defended her po
sition a number of times, will be
considered as ranked there definitely
for the year.

Britton tried three goals from
placement, two being from the mid
dle of the field. The third, and the
successful kick, was made from the
27-yard line in the last quarter of the
game.
The punting of the big fullback
was also a decided asset to the Ill
inois team. His kicks averaged 45
yards and helped the Hlini material
ly. One punt was good for almost
70 yards.

Britton is one of the biggest back
field men in the country, weighing
more than 200 pounds. His line
plunging has been consistent enough
to be of value to his team.

In spite of the rainy conditions
that prevailed, a large squad of
freshmen reported for their Wednes
day evening workout Three teams
spent the first part of the workout
in signal practice. The first-string
men were perfecting the Oklahoma
plays which consist largely of for
ward passing off various formations.
After about an hour and a half
of this kind of work they were sent
to the Stadium for a final scrim
mage with the Varsity. The snap,
vim and fight that the freshmen are
putting into their practices demon
strates that they are anxious to make
good.

a letter to every student's father in
viting him to participate in the program.
