I ITS 03377' I (fflr LAUNDRY TEAM STILL HAS HARD WORK AHEAD Varsity- football practice Wednes day evening was open to the public and a fair showing of Cornhuskor football fans turned out to see .the Varsity team and the reserves scrim mage. The scrimmage demonstrated that much more work is still ahead of the Cornhuskers to prepare for the 111 inois came, little more than a week off. The work was somewhat ragged Several men were tried out and showed fairly well. Tryba and Tom sen were playing with the reserves, alternating at halfback. Mielenz, halfback, was shifted to fullback for the afternoon's fray. Scholtz, big lineman, went well in practice. Vanity Superior. The Varsity aggregation was eas ily the superior, not so much because of smooth teamwork as sheer power. Two touchdowns were scored by the first string. The necessity for giving signals orallv. occasioned by the fact that both teams knew the regular signals, of course added some to the confu sion, but the Scarlet and Cream machine is still not as smooth work ing as it must be to meet the Illim. Locke and Mandery were still at the halfback positions, Myers at fuli and Bloodzood at quarter. Blood- good got away for several good gains and Myers is showing ability as a line plunger. The defense was rath er ragged throughout. Rhodes and Robertson worked at ends, Captain Weir and Molzen at tackles, Hubka and Ogden at guards and Hutchinson at center. May Drill on Paaaei. Drilling in the passing game and unusually hard workouts at running RiPTinls are predicted for the next week. The aerial branch of the sport mav be reverted to in the Illinois game, for the eastern men are known to have a line that will be hard to puncture. Nothine particularly startling in the line of new plays has been devel oped. The team is too green to exe cute complicated plays successfully, and it will be necessary to stick to the old game of hit-the-line and run-the-ends. On the second string in the work out, Bronson, quarterback, showed up verv well in defensive work. Mie- lenz and Tomsen were also doing well. Dailey, while not as strong on defense, was one of the stars so far as off insive work is concerned. Coach Dawson dressed his second squad jn blue freshman jerseys for the evening's entertainment, to dis tinguish them from the Varsity. There was changing of jerseys as men were taken out and put in. The workout was on the new turf field. The field is now in good shape, a summer spent in watering, rolling and clipping having brought results. The turf should remove the complaint of the Notre Dame team last year that it was handicapped by a hard field. May Apply for Annual Business Staff Monday Annotations for the business staff positions on the 1925 Cornhuskei will be taken Monday the ZStn 01 September instead of this week as was announced in The Daily Ne braskan yesterday. All those inter ested are urged to apply by Rob ert Lang, business manager. All po sitions do not require business ex perience. The positions to be filled will be announced in a later edition of The Daily Nebraskan. DAILY NooftAbiVAfl Hutchinson and Wostoupal Uphold Husker's Reputation for Centers i 0 n HAROLD HUTCHINSON Harold Hutchinson and Joe Wost oupal, centers on the Varsity squad, have upheld the tradition that Ne braska must have a fighting man in the middle of the line. Hutchinson has usually received the call for regular duty, with Wost oupal ready at any time to relieve him. Both played in a number of games last year. For the last several years Nebras ka has been fortunate in its centers. JOE WOSTOUPAL Photos by Campus Studio. Bill Day, Peterson and Hutchinson have formed a trio hard to beat. Both Hutchinson and Wostoupal have enough weight to make them formidable and their fighting spirit has never been questioned. Walsh, captain of the Notre Dame team last year, found more than a match in Hutchinson. Walsh was known as one of the best centers in the country. "We want to get an organized group of students in the student sec tion to get some real cheering!" Mr. Selleck continued. "That will put more fight in a team than anything else. Every student in school should show his Cornhusker loyalty by buy ing a ticket and getting his little red N button next week." Is Up to Students. "It is up to the students to make what they may of student section whether it is a real student section or whether they are going to allow some students to sell their tickets and let some outsiders in cheap. With co-operation from the student body this ticket-scalping will be reduced to almost zero. We are making special plans this year to combat this evil and if we find anything of this sort the student who sold the ticket may have a hard time explaining how he peddled his ticket." A separate committee will be in charge of sales of the tickets each ,y. These committees will be an nounced from day to day by the Ne braskan.
