Valley Freshman Telegraphic
Track Meet to Be Held
May 14.
NEBRASKA FRESHMEN
ARE TITLE-HOLDERS
Th-a fourth annual Missouri Valley
freshman telegraphic meet, will be
held Wednesday, May 14, the week
preceding the Valley meet at Lin
coln. Competition takes place on the
home fields of the competing univer
sities, and the results are tabulated,
and the winner is decided.
This meet is held in accordance
with tha rules governing" the regular
Valley meets and consists of the
customary fourteen field and track
events, and two relay events. Places
and points will count the same as
regular meets, and a trophy will be
awarded the winning team. In
events where more than four men
are entered, preliminaries will be run
off the day preceding the meet, to
determine the four men who will take
liart in the telegraphic meet.
The blanks for reporting the meet
will be Bent this year to A. E. Eilers

who have had less than ona year resi
dence at tho institution which they
represent will be eligible.
The meet last year was won by the
Nebraska University freshmen who
made 47 2-3 points. Washington U.
took second honors with 85 1-2
points. Some excellent records have
been made by Valley freshman com
peting in the telegraphic meet, two
of them being set by Nebraska ath
letes. A number of promising fresh
man have been reporting regularly
for track this year, who will make
the personnel for a strong freshman
team.
The dual meet between the Univer
sity of Kansas, and the University of
Missouri, to be held at Lawrence,
Kansas, May 9, has bean changed to
Wednesday, May 7, because of base
ball games scheduled at Kansas U.

Early in the season Coach Shulte
predicted that Locke would beat the
California wonder in the Drake re
lays if he was In condition. In prac
tice races Locke has never had to
extend himself, In fact he has had
no real competition save when he was
handicapped several yards,and no one
in the Nebraska camp knows just
how fast he can run.
Hartman, who won first place in
the 16-pound shot put at the Kan
sas relays, will probably lead Husker

Layton Probably Ineligible and
Bloodgood Is Added to
Team.
Twenty-two Husker track and field
men left yesterday afternoon for the
Drake relays at Dcs Moines today and
tomorrow. Bloodgood, quarter-miler
was added to the Husker list late in
the day and left on an evening train.
"Red" Layton, fast 440-man on tne
mile relay team, whose scholastic
standing is in doubt, also left last
night, and will probably run in the
meet under the banner of the Illinois
Athletic club if he is still ineligible
for the Nebraska team.
One of the events that will be of
special interest to Husker followers
of the classic sport will be the 100-
yard-dash in which Paddock, world
champion sprinter will compete with
Roland Locke, Husker ten-second

made first place in the Drake relays
last year with 42 feet, and has been
heaving the shot farther than that
this year.' '
Hobb Turner will be the other
bright light in the Husker field
events. He established a new Hus
ker high jump record at the Kansas
relays when he cleared the bar at
6:3, which was one Inch less than
Poor of Illinois who won first place.
The two twill meet fcgain at Des
Moines together with other outstand
ing Jumpers from all parts of the
United States.
Nebraska's greatest strength will
be in the middle distances, the quarter-mile
and half-mile races. Schulte
has a crew of fast 440 men in Crites,
Whipperman, Hein, . and Hatch.
Captain Maurice Gardner who estab
lished a new Husker record in the
half-mile dash last year is back in
old-time form and will be one of the
stellar performers in this feature of
the relays. He may run in the
quarter mile races.
