As a remedy of this condition,
would it not be well to change tne
basis of representation? For the
consideration of the board, I suggest
that in the future the fundamental

THE GREAT CAMPUS DIS
CUSSION. To the Editor:
As for expressing appreciation,
really don't you think actions speak
louder than words, and that this
"conferring a favor" idea should be
checked?
There are clever girls and dumb
ones, giggling girls and smiling ones,
appreciative and unappreciative, line
handers and serious ones; and you
will find all kinds both in sororities
and out of them. It is true, though,
that frat men have a tendenc. to
limit their circle of dates to sorority
girls. It is so easy to follow the
beaten path, and call a sorority.
There is something distasteful about
inviting a "barb" to the house. Are
men slaves to convention, lacking the
courage to do their own thinking and
to act upon their own ideas?
I can't feel a great deal of sym
pathy for fellows who, alone some
time in a moment of reflection, be
moan the abundance of "liners
It's the men's fault; they demand
that type. If they really want to
find girls who can be real pals, why
don't they look for them? They
can't be too bashful. It must be
they are too lazy. It is so much
easier to be vamped into something
by someone who bubbles over when
she sees you and chatters endlessly
until you ask her for a date in order
to get away without being abrupt.
But they can't help it. Of course
not, they rather like being monopo
lized it's flattering.

Judge a tie
by the company it keeps
A tie, as well as a person, may
be known by the company it
keeps. Cheney tubulars are
proud of their association with
well-dressed college men.
The name "Cheney" on the
neckband of a tie guarantees
correctness, of style and pat
tern, craftsmanship of weave,
and excellence of materials.

news on this

Poor disillusioned men. Are you
too weak to start a conversation when
you happen to see one of your class
mates? That in, I mean, If she is
at all attractive. Study people. It's
interesting. Talk to everyone, and
after a while you'll find that many
people ,whom you had before merely
recognized, are really quite inter
esting, in fact, keen when you come
to think about it. Learn to distin
guish gold from brass. Be friendly.
That's what this old world needs.

INDEPENDENTS WON'T "SEC
OND FIDDLE."
To the Editor:
I read tha latter of "A Fraternity
Man" and also the answers from the
sorority girls but I think the inde
pendent girl has a comeback too.
A high compliment you paid me,
"M. F." Yes, indeed "A girl who
appreciates the time and money spsnt
on her."
I was told before I came here
that a girl had to "fall all over a
man's neck in order to keep him"
here. It appears so. But as far as
I know the Independent women aren't
going to, any more than the sorority
women. We aren't so dumb as you
think. Yes, and another one: "Do
not date these dumb sorority girls,
let them sit at home and date the
Independent girls who appreciate it."
You might as well have said it in
that many words it would have
saved time. Date the Independents,
until when? Until the sorority girls
"come around" then drop them?
No, thank you. We navs more sense.
I'm afraid you'd find yourselves be
ing refused if you tried it. Am I
not right, girls?
As for old fashioned girls. Good
heavens! Why should we be old
fashioned girls if there are no gal
lants to go with us. The other day
I open-ed the north door of Social
Science and as I held it, four men
walked out and two walked it The
four were fraternity men.
And as for walking to dances. Do
you realize that when a girl troes
to a dance she has on thin slippers,
generally high-heeled? How can you
want her to walk ten or fifteen
blocks, then when she is tired, walk
home? And you'd not take her again
if she wore walking shoes you'd
dub her a "rotten dancer." As for
riding on a street car. I never had a
man suggest it to me so it's not my
fault if we don't. It's his.
Independent (rirls don't be sub
stitutes for the sorority girls. That
isn't what you're hers for. You
aren't dumb. The men are just conceited.
Sorority Rushing
Under Question
Plans for simpler rushing by soro
rities in the fall were discussed at
the regular Pan-Hellenic meeting
Wednesday afternoon in University
hall. Dan Amanda Heppner spoke
on the raising of scholarship in soro
rities, and the part of the sorority
girl in activities. "Girls should not
be forced into activities for honor
to the sorority, but rather to devel
op the girl's own personal character,"
she said.
Sisters Plan
Installation
A picnic and installation meeting
is being planned by the Big Sisters
organization for the near future fir
initiation of new members.
The Big Sisiers on the Seniory Ad
visory board elected the new mem
bers for next year at a series of meet
ings held during the past two weeks
from the entire list of girls regis
tered in the University. The new
members were chosen with a view to
their participation in student activi
ties, their dependability, and their
jComhusker spirit.
