Final tryouts to determine what Husker tracksters will compete in the University1 of Kansas relay car nival, at Lawrence, Kas., April 19, were held at the stadium Tuesday af ternoon. Due to the cold weather the trvouts wirn held n'n thn i track, although the new cinder track is rapidly being worked into -excellent shape for the comnig tragic meets. The main event of yesterday's per formance was a special one lap race, which Locke won in 29 seconds, breaking the old record of 29:1 held by Red Layton. The speedy North Platte athlete also won the 100 yard event. Results of the tryouts were: 100 yards, Locke, 11:1 seconds. Broad jump, Hatch, 21 feet, 8 3-4 inches. Half mile, Higginsv 2:07 4-10 sec onds. 50 yards, Beerkle, 5 4-10 seconds. The track team will be seriously handicapped in th-3 coming meets, by the absence of Whipperman, quarter and a half miler, who has been hav ing serious trouble with an abcessed jaw. DIAMOND PASTIMERS HOLD DAILY PRACTICE Husker Baseball Men Hard at Work in Preparation for Coming Contests. The varsity and freshman baseball squads have been practicing daily in the Rock Island park all this week with the exception of yesterday when practice was discontinued for a day. The two teams play several innings at every practice, the varsity loan ing Rhodes' and Lang as a battery to the freshmen on Tuesday. Several men out for varsity berths who were not taken on the trip south have shown up well in the workouts held since the team's return. Bell, Hollingsworth and Patton are run ning the veterans of the squad a good race for places on the squad. A number of men out for freshman positions are also showing promise. Pickett, Edwards, and Andreason are among the freshmen who are doing good work. The varsitv and freshmen nines may play a full game next Saturday.
