WEBBER TALKS ON PSYCHOLOGY "Race Psychology" was discussed by Prof. C. 0. Webber of the state university Tuesday evening before the psychology-journal club at Ne braska Wesleyan, university. "Psy chologists aroused a theoretical in terest in race psychology long be fore the subject was taken up in a practical way. Now it i s of tre mendous importance. The war ex emplified racial hate and suspicion. "Psychology has had a mushroom growth. Delvers into other lin-es, as botany, history and sociology, have taken up the psychological side of their study. Mob violence is a mark of the age. False opinions of ra cial psychology have something to do with mobs. The psychologist has to determine whether races are po tentially equal or not. The opinion has prevailed that savage races pos sess keener sensory acuity but psy chological tests have indicated that savages are inferior o the whites in sensory acuity. Differences in sen sory powers are so small as to be neglible. Complex intellect tests do show differences. Negro and In dian children are inferior to whites but less so than is thought. Ne groes are at a disadvantage in ab stract thinking but they show little difference in memory. Indians are found to be a little inferior here to the negro. Indians are superior to whites and the negro in fatigue testa. Perhaps that is due to the fact that the Indian works more slowly and does not bo exhaust him self. F. M. Taylor has proved that men work better if they go slowly at first. "The mulatto is more intelligent than the puri negro. The kind of whites tha mix with blacks is in ferior. Psychologists know little about temperment. That and devo tion to ideals are hard to measure. A number of psychologists are try ing to dsvise means for measuring these capacities of man. "The Germans are a willing and plodding race. They nrnice good at juiceless tasks like cabinet making. Th Jews take an interest in ab stract thought. Einstein is of Jew ish extraction. Most of our colonial immigration was Nordic. Beginr ning wih 1840 there was a falling off.
