Help I
Help I
The Rag Doll says that the prob
lem is not to make both ends meet,
but to find the ends.
ACCORDING TO LOGIC.
When tickling niay be defined as
an intensely vivid complex of un
steady ill-localized and ill-analyzed
sensation with attention distributed
over the immediate sensory contents
and the concomitant sensations re
f lexly aroused why should we worry
about the high cost of living.
"Do you believe in spiritualism?"
"Well, I occasionally believe in
raisin some."
"Oooh!"
"S'ntatter?"
"This pie tastes funny."
"Well, that ought to tickle you.'
Many a fountain pen has prayed
to be an eighteenth amendment.
We wonder sometimes if there will
be anything but absence reports when
the roll is called up yonder.
(About this time of year) "I hear
that your son is coming home from
college on account of illness."
"Yes, he said he had so much
trouble with the curriculum."

Calendar
i
CHARTER DAY.
A wei-k from today, February 15,
1500 former students in twenty
three alumni clubs will observe Char-
tor day of the University of Nebras
ka. They wiil have recalled to them J
the fact that fifty-five years ago a
bill was passed by the state logisla-
ture providing for the establishment j
of an institution, the object of which,
-shall be to afford to the inhabitants j
of the tate the means of acquiring f
a thorough knowledge of the various
branches of literature, science, and
art." They will mention the name
of E. E. Cunningham who introduced
the bill, and of David Butler, the
governor who signed it.
The first graduating class of our
school will be talked about, and
perhaps its two members, Judge J.
S. Dales, whose office is in the Ad
ministration building, and Judge
William Z. Snell of Tacoma, Wash.,
will appear as Charter day speakers.
Probably they will have their audi
ences some of the 841 members of
the June class of 1923.
The alumni will talk about the
time when Charter day was a school
holiday on the campus, and they will
tell about the medals they won in
athletic events. Maybe they will
comment upon the fact that many
students on the campus now see Char
ter day come and go without ever
thinking of it.
The absence- of Charter day from
the student calendar is the result of
two factors. It was found that the
University was not holding classes
on the required number of days, and
the students were coming to regard
the event simply as a means of get
ting out of work and not as a day of
significance.
Back of this indifference was per
haps the growing tendency of people
of all classes to regard holidays as
opportunities for relaxation rather
than occasions for celebration.
Charter day is a tradition forgot
ten by the present generation but
alive to alumni. It is the plan of
the Alumni Association to strength
en the traditions hold upon old stu
dents by establishing the custom of
having the alumni clubs meet an
nually on that day.
The clubs will teach future grad
uates that Nebraska spirit and fra-
d'tlon exist beyond the campus, and
thai ore may still learn of Corn
huAer bonds after student days are
over.
So graduates will celebrate next
Friday and undergraduates will wait
un'Jl their time comes before start
ing this Cornhusker activity.
Rut in students and graduates and
Nebraskans everywhere who are re
Tnir ded that February 15 is Charter
day, a sense of the tremendous
growth of Nebraska university will
be awakened. The vastness of the
institution as compared to the orig
inal plan, the great increase in the
registration over that first year byj
this fifty-fifth, the equipment, the
faculty, everyhing hat goes to win
and support a national reputation for
the school by these the progress of
a college, a state, a nation is marked.
