FRESHMEN AND FIRST TEAMS STAGE BATTLE Lewellen, Noble, Dewitz and Hartman, working in back- field, Make Good Gains Through Yearling Line. Two fighting teams of Cornhus ker warriors squared off against two squads of Freshmen candidates in a battle royal on the stadium field Wednesday afternoon. At 5 o'clock Coach Farley Young sent out the best bet on his Fresh men squad against team "A" of the varsity. The first year men kicked off to the Cornhuskers and in sit downs the varsity had scored a touch down. On the fifth down Dave Noble broke through the Frosh line and by his clever side-stepping and broken field running planted the ball on the one yard line. His run netted the varsity thirty-five yards. Herb Dewitz went over for six points. ance Friday. Sept. 28th B LINCOLN HOTEL The Nebraskans Just returned from a sum mer at Estes Park. 8:30-11:30 $1.10 B ORPHEUM Saturday, September 29. Herb made another point by kicking goal. Team "A" consisted of Hut chinson center, Hcndrickson and Rerquist guards, Dassett and Ogden tackles, McAllister and Rhodes ends, Captain Lewellen quarter, Herb De witt and Dave Noble halfbacks, and Ced Hartman fullback. The entire backficld made gain after gain thru the Frosh line. Alternating plays showed them all finding holes and getting through. Herb Dewits and Lewellen made some spectacular end runs. Dave Nobles' shiftiness was accountable for many of the long gains. The backfield on team "B" con sisted of Rufus Dewitz yelling sig nals, supported by Locke, fullback, and Bud Randolph and Al Blood good halfbacks, made a fine showing against the Frosh team "B." Locke got away for many long gains around the ends and thru the line, Rufus Dewitz showed good headwork in his plays and his Tine pluging was a hard proposition for the first year men to handle. Ogden and Hendrickson who were in the lineup tonight in place of Weir who was advised by Dr. Everett to stay out for a couple of days on account of his severe cold, and McGlasson who has a bruised shoulder, demonstrated to the coaches and spectators that they have plenty of fight and are working hard for a berth on the Cornhusker for ward wall. Coache Zuppke of the University of Illinois coaching staff and Head Coach Dawson of the Cornhusker camp have called off their agreement to exchange their grid formations for the gridiron battle at Urbana October 6. Announcement of the cancellation was made by Coach Zup pkr. He said the decision was partly due to the popular misconception that the coaches were to exchange notes of the plays in advance of the game, thus making it a practice game. A statement obtained irom Coach Dawson was to the effect that the agreement had been called off by mutual consent and another agreement had been entered into but it was impossible for him to make it public at present. However both coaches expect a hard battle from the kickoff to the final whistle and, they are both doing everything pos sible in getting their teams in actual battling condition. 5.00 reward for return of barber pole which was taken from The Campus Hair Cutting Shop, 231 North 12th St LUNCHES SODA ID ILLERS RESCRIPTION HARMACY Sixteenth & O.
