Upperclassmen Display Spirit Of Comradship to Newcomers Those who know have said that the very act of recognizing one's own good qualities detracts decidedly from one's charm. 'Tis a foregone conclusion that the members of our institution possess charm, and we would hate to say or do anything to detract from the unusual and de lightful quality, but and herein lies Hie lale. Our freshmen have recognized and even ventured to comment upon the pleasing, and even generous com radeship of the upperclassmen. Thus they make it a necessity that we rec ognize our own attitute in the mat ter. It is a delightful atmosphere to create, this feeling of helping and doing something for the stranger and ! making him recognize at first sight the qualities about our campus life that have endeared it to U3 and made it a part of us. The women have put much time and effort into the carrying out of the "Big Sister Movement," and through this work have created a comradeship among the incoming girls and the upperclasswomen that lives throughout the school year as a permanent association. This desire to help every new matriculate is a happy one, and we don't leave it to the freshmen to comment upon we hold it as a standard up to which every Nebraskan must live. We're proud of the fact that the strange man hesitates not a second to approach any man in sight with his question, however trivial it may seem. And we are prouder still of the upperclassman who replies so readily: "That's all right, old man. I'm mighty glad I could answer it." A great deal of effort has been put into the designing of the caps in order to make the wearers feel as inconspicuously conspicuous as pos sible. It is the turn of the fresh men to do .heir share by wearing the caps. CADET OFFICERS APPOINTED FOR YEARR 1923-24 (Continued on Page 3) Carl C. Kruger. Maurice Shickley. " And a freshman girl de lighted in showing off her newly ac quired habit of a daily perusal of The Daily Nebraskan, almost wailed as she expressed her disappointment. "It says here that the men of the freshmen class are made to wear those funny green caps just so they will know each other. Don't the girls have something to distinguish each other by not even a badge?" "Silly!" exclaimed her sophisti cated sophomore sister. "You would not want to have to wear anything green. Why just thinK how unbe coming it would be with that perfect new peacock sweater of yours! And besides, this way, people may take you for an upperclassman, even a senior." We wonder.
