The Cornhusker football team left for Kanaaa last evening, assured of the loyal support of Nebraska root ers. Beside a large delegation from the student body, many Nebraska alumul and Lincoln business men. will witness the game at Lawrence. Upon those who make the trip to the Jayhawker state will rest the respon sibility of demonstrating the spirit and loyalty of the entire University. There is no necessity to define Ne- j braska spirit. It is based on the highest kind of good sportsmanship. Each individual who goes to Kansas, whether he be on the first team, the freshman squad, a member of the band, a "Corncob," or a ordinary rooter, wil help to contribute to that splendid spirit of which Nebraska is proud. by o large percentage of the student body. This sport Is crosscountry. During the running season the mon on the cross-country squad put in many hours of strenuous practice. The squad has been entered In three meets this year. Tomorrow the Husker tenm will enter the Missouri Valley Conference meet at St. Louis. In our enthusiasm for football we should not fail to give recognition to those who represent us in this minor sport, cross-country. Everyone that attends the Kansas Nebraska game at Lawrence next Saturday must remember that he i3 a representative of this institution, that any action whether good or bail will reflect upon his school, and that he is under surveillance at all times by those who would get an im pression of the University or Ne braska. Our football team has made an enviable reputation in the Jay hawker school, and now the student? themselves are given an opportunity to associate with fellow students on another campus. It has been two years since the University of Kansas has been host J to the Cornhuskers and according to j the program they will be most pleas ant entertainers. We must enact our parts as appreciative guests and j show our southern friends that our student body Is of a high calibre. Above all things show respect for their song or yell that is equivalent to our "Cornhusker." Nothing wins a warmer place in the heart of an opponent than a display of good sportsmanship. You can't please all of the people all the time but you can displease lots of people most of the time. Turn about is fair play but you can't make everybody think that way. Kiom our kid-age, as early as we can re member, we recall hearing "Don't do this and don't do that." As we grew older we learned that many times we were not in tho wrong. But the A3 1 SPECIAL EVENTS SUNDAY SEE The Silver Moon FOR Free Trip to Kansas CONVOCATION. There were many reasons why the convocation yesterday at which for mer Chancellor McLean spoke meant a great deal to the students present. Dr. McLean Is an able speaker. As well as entertaining the audience with reminiscences of his connection with the University he brought a message to the students of today. II told of the privilege and the respon sibility the American University stu dent has, and he urged the students of Nebraska to take their places in the new "international era." Another feature of the convocation was in itself worth going to see. This was the number of members of the faculty who were here when Dr. Mc Lean was chancellor twenty-five years ago. The University has very few ceremonlals when the student body comes in contact with the academic spirit of the University. As the fac ulty members who have given a quarter of a century of service ti this Institution filed up on stage and took their places, the reaction on the students was noticeable. CROSS-COUNTRY.
