SPORTRAITS
Action of Nebraska officials and
track men in accepting the decisions
of officials without protest will cer
tainly be commended by all Corn
husker students. While Schulte pro
tested the 100-yard dash slipup of the
officials it was only after having pres
sure brought to bear by other coaches
who knew the Nebraska man had
placed second and not third and was
entitled to run the final. Nebraska
followers love clean sports and will al
ways do what they can to promote it 1
Captain Ed Smith has three times
this year been the victim of poor work
on the part of track meet officials.
Twice at Chicago Smith received the
poor end of the deal. Once at the
Missouri Valley meet, officials took
away a part of the honor due him.
The Chicago incidents are recounted
at length in another section of this
paper but few know the details of
the Missouri Valley event. Smith
made the 220-yard dash in the fast
time of 21 2-5 seconds according to
four or five time keepers. The fifth
clock read 21 4-5 seconds and a com
promise was reached at 21 3-5 second?.
Had the odds stood two to three cr
vice versa, there would be no kick
coming. Nebraska is not kicking now
but with such overwhelming odds any
man should have been credited wltit
equally the world's record ot 21 2-5
seconds for the 220.
Twilight league baseball took a de
cided boost following the announce
ment Wednesday that the schedule
would start today. The first clash of
the season will be between the Sum
mer Nebraskan team and I ho basebal;
class entrants. Both teams have so
cured the campus in an effort to se
cure the best of players. Baseball mei
may still enroll for the league teams.
Hot competition is expected through
out the season and the more summer
school students who take an active
interest In the games, the better the
league will turn out.
