INTERCOLLEGIATE
DEBATE SCHEDULED
Nebraska to Meet Iowa and South
Dakota on April 7
Nebraska's inter-collegiuto debutes
for this college year will be with the
University of Iowa and with the .Uni
versity of South Dakota, according
to announcement Saturday by I'rol.
M. M. Fogg of the department oi
English. The new schedule, whicn
takes the place of the NebrasKa Iowa
dual debates since the war, will In
clude Nebraska-South Dakota at Lin
coln and Nebraska Iowa at Iowa City.
The contests will be hold Friday ev
ning, April 7.
The up-to-date, important question
of the allied debts, proposed ty Ne
braska, will be discussed. Tlie
phrasing of the proposition is: "Re
solved, that the United States should
cancel the allied debts." A Nebras
ka team will maintain the .ffirmii
tive at Lincoln and another team the
negative at Iawa City. The question
is considered by university profes
sors of economics, law, and Knylish,
specially interested in debate, as
very timely.
The selection of Nebraska's icpre
sentatives in the debate lorum
will be begun at a primin.iry con'
test, held before the middle ol Feb
ruary, open to all students in good
standing who were in the university
last semester.

Mr. John T. Zimmer, who has been
an assistant in the museum during
the past semester, left Wednesday
for Field Meseum of Natural llittory,
Chicago, 111. After spending a coup
le cf preparatory months Mr. Zim
mer will be placed in charge of a
field party and will be sent to South
America to collect birds and mam
mals. Mr. Zimmer becomes at once
assistant curator, department cf Or
nithology, and is in direct line foi
promotion to the directorship.

This Week.
Professor Charles Fordyce ad
dressed the members of the Wo
men's club of Grand Island Monday
evening on the subject "Vocational
Guidance."
A collection of arrow points, scrap
ers, drills, spear points, from Zapata
county, Texas, and numerous pieces
of pottery from the Pueblo ruins at
Pecos, N. M., has been secureu and
donated to the Nebraska state mu
seum by Mr. L. W. Petree, an as
sistant in the department of geology,
and geography.
"Primitive &erret Societies," a
work by Professor Hutton Wt.oster
of the department of history, has
appeared in an Lillian translation
by Dr. Pettazzcn of the Royal Uni
versity of Bologna, A Japanese ver
sion of this book was published a few
years ago.
A call for more, girls to p'' bas
ketball has been issued by the wo
men's .athletic association. Almost
every girl in school has plajed the
game, and has a fair chance with
others in making her class team.
There are enough practice periods
to give every girl a chance to get
the required ten in before March.
All girls who compiled the ten
practices will play in the Monte Carlo
tournament, (so called because the
players are drawn by position for
teams.) This also awards fifty W.
A. A. points, with an additional
twenty-five to the winning team. Af
ter this tourney the class teams will
be chosen from the players. All
members of class teams wil saiiifice
the fifty points received in the first
tourney, and receive 100 points for
:-lass team. Fifty additional point.

are included in the series, coverinc
ancient, medieval and modern his
tory. The publishers are A J. Ny
strom & Co., Chicago, and the maps
may be secured separately, if bo desired.
BOY SCOUT LEADERS
TO SECURE TRAINING
Training for boy scout leaders is
being given at the teachers' college
every Tuesday evening by tte uni
versity extensioa department. Two
lessons have already been tau&ht and
