"Two hundred and fifty candidates
for the track and cross -country
teams" Is t'.e plea of Coaches Hairy
T. Schulte and J. Loyd MeMasters.
There are about seventy men now on
the squad but the coaches want at
least three times as many candidates
for the team. This number of men
can be handled easily and individual
attention Riven to the candidate?.
Those familiar with track ork say
that this is an exceptional opportu

and cross-country to secure valuable
individual Instruction.
The track and cross-country squal
which numbers seventy men is show

There are from thirty-five to forty
candidates for the team on the field
daily. Twenty-five men at thf state
farm have turned out for cross-country
running while at the medical school
in OOniuha a squad of about twenty
are seking berths on the cross-country
teams.
Coaches Schulte and McMasters
state that individual attention will

coaches out of them. Captain Smitn
is coaching the sprinters, McDonald
the quarter-milers, McCarthy the half

These athletes are doing very credit
able work as coaches and are materi
ally assisting Coach Schulte in build
ing up the track team.
Varsity men are all showing the
old-time Nebraska spirit in track and
cross-country running. They are help
ing the new men out to condition
themselves and become acquainted
witji track work. As a result, the
whole track and cross-country squad
are enthusiastic over the outlook.
High intercut in teams is evidenced
by the keen competition and friendly
rivalry between those seeking places
on the team.
The coaches state that numerals
will be giv.n out this year. They
will be also awarded to freshmen. The
winning of a numeral, which is a high
honor, does not require that a man
shall obtain a place on the track team.
The practice cf awarding numerals
was beguu last year, ar-.d thirty-six
athletes received this honor. Num
erals will also be awarded this year
to members of the cross-country
squad.
The Missouri valley cross-country
run wil be held in Lincoln on Home
