The first junior class play since the pre-war days of 1!'17 will he- presi nted May 20. This is a revival ef an oil established tradition of the third year class. Every University sunh -nt is ir.jrod to support this play, in order that the tradition may net be compelled to be abandoned again. The play is woven around an inter est''!!? theme. A man from the West, wi'h nothing bi hind him - no friends, r.o family, no traditions-seeks 'he East. He enteis New York City as "an invader" ar.d then his job is to combat the master minds of W'M Street. lie but then, this is shins th.e plot away. Yon will know whether "the invader" succeeded or failed in his Eastern invasion if you attend the play. THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOLAR SHIP. Our colleges were founded for the purpose of expanding our knowledge by means of books and observation. They were intended as charnels to guide new solved problem" to our brains? Scholarship the ground work of our educational institutions--serins, however, to be taktr.s a bark scat fn those days of th.e twentifh century- Too many .-talents place it last. A good way to "rush" for students next year suggests itself in regard to the coming high school Fete day, when fitudc-nts from all parts of the state will visit the University. We must fhow them that University, students do net attend Xebraska merely to "play around." but that they come here for study, character developmc n and indulgence in worth-while campus activities, as their time permits. THE NEBRASKA OF NEXT YEAR. 1. Spirit In looking forward to what Xe- brafka UniversUy should expect to be next year, -re must consider first of J that all-important-yet intanz'ble thin-known M SPIRIT. We cannot Put oUr hands cn Jt u Ju J!ble object Yet ire can tell -rhen KM with us and when It is absent The word SPIRIT does not merely mfn th Xor expressions of ege patriotic outwardly dis- played nt football giunes and other athletic events. It means more than that it means an expressed loyalty to college at debates, all-University meetings, elections, nnd other affairs. It means large attendances at mass meetings, convocations and rallies. It meant wholehearted cheering and pinging for heroes of the Cornhusker athletic world which is truly a world of its own. Perhaps you noticed, In the news reels of the recent Penn relays, that the gigantic crowd which attended was symbolic of a true spirit. Every student present took part in the cheer ingit was not done in groups or by those of the more energetic class. At ! a given signal every Penn student was on his feet ready for the begin tning of tlie rhythmic motions that are an Impressive part of the cheering ! of students from Eastern colleges, especially when these movements are j done with clock-work precision. ! It is up to us to come back to Ne- braska next ca'r with a new spirit. We must inject into the school again ; the enthusiasm that was at its niaxi 1 mum in 1916. We cannot, fall below our former standards. If you don't j believe there is spirit at Wisconsin, attend a summer session. They even display it then. i Make a resolution now to return to lour Cornhusker schoql in the fall with a jaw set with the determination to , make Nebraska leadIn spirit! SHE ' C ,'N no IT.
