IVEY WRITES ON DISTRIBUTION PROBLEMS The March, 1921, number of Ad ministration, the Journal of business analysis and control, contained an ar ticle written by Prof. Paul Wesley Ivey of the College of Business Ad ministration on "The Manufacturer's Marketing Problem." Trofessor Ivey discusses the extensive readustments of the factors in the system of dis tribution which have been brought about by the transformation of a seller's market into a buyer's market, and explains the various points of view of the manufacturer, jobber, and retailer on the resulting problems. He points out where each has been integrating or taking over some of the functions of the other two; and shows that the struggle for business protection is at the root of the strug gle for markets. He takes up the various kinds of dealer help which the manufacturer has adopted to get the cooperation of the retailer. He shows that the decreasing cost stage of production is sought by the manufacturers not only for larger mmediate profits, but also for a cushion of profits which serves as an insurance fund for the profitable con tinuance of the business during periods of depression and In spite of vigorous competition.
