Great because it Is the achievement
of a nartist; great because it is so
humanly real; great because It never
happened, yet could happen to any
one of us, because the characters
never breathed and yet could live
Just as Anna and David lived. This
Is "Way Down East"
You can feel the pulse of a great
artist's heart and the soul-beat of a
great genius as it is interwoven into
every scene. Whether it is the daisy
field near the river, at the old
fashioned bob sled party, or whether
the ice is roaring to the falls in the
Connecticut river jam, it is all the
work of David Wark Griffith, the
genius.
Lillian Gish seems to have eclipsed
her eventful career of splendid screen
acting with her interpretation of the
colorful life of Anna. With her curls
piled high on her bond, Lillian of the
Sighs seems to radiate a new and
wondrous beauty. RIchnrd Barthel
mess is always Interesting, not mere
ly because he Is a finished actor and
good to look at, but because he Is a
Lincoln boy, whose true surname Is
Hutchinson. Mary Hay, the little
wife of Mr. Barthelmess In real life,
shows promise of becoming a screen
favorite with her genuine character
ization of the professor's sweetheart.
Too much cannot be said of the
music that accompanied th'3 picture.
Each picture was accompanied by a
score that carried out perfectly the
prone before the vision.
In our opinion, Mr. Griffith has ac
complished a monumental work that

Alpha Till entertained the active
members of the Kappa Alpha Theta
at a matinee dance Saturday after
noon at the chapter house. Ferns
and shaded lights were used as deco
rations. Ice and cakes were served,
George Washington Party.
The girls in the dormitory at 423
North 13th street were hostesses at
a George Washington ostume party
Saturday evening. Verna Trine
played a piano solo and Dorothy
Whelepley gave a solo dance. Deco
rations were carried out in red and
green.

n Kappa Till held its annual ban
quet at the chapter house Saturday
evening. Sixty active members and
alumni were present. V. L. Taylor
of Beatrice, acted as toastmaster.

AT YANKTON COLLEGE
Trof. M. M. Fogg spoke at Yankton
College. S. D., Friday evening on
"Principles of Public Discourse" and,
on invitation of the seven colleges In
the South Dakota Intercollegiate
Oratorical Association, acted as sole
Midge of the thought, structure, style
of the manuscripts submitted in ad
vance, and of the presentation of the
addresses on current questions at the
thirty-third contest of the association.
