STORY HARDING

GET OUT TO THAT DEBATE.
The llusker debating team will meet that of Iowa Friday ami
Saturday hero at Nebraska. Are we goin? to support their efforts?
The material for the question and the personnel of the teams promise
a truly worthwhile contest for any one interested in the intellectual
sciences. Come out and help develop the more intellectual line? at
Neora ka. At times, from all appearances and conversations, this
school supports nothing but dances, t healers and athletic events.
Surely the students, do not wish to have this impression fro out over
the state, as Nebraska interests. As one student said: "Even the
Nebraskan is usually full of social eve nis and University notices."
This is the opportunity for something different, the best kind of out
side education. Make a special effort to so. One other thing never
in our experience has a Cornhusker yell been given at a debating
contesi. Let's try that sort of support and enthusiasm for them too.
THE CIGARET ON THE CAMPUS.
It seems fitting at this time to call ihe attention of some oi the
students to the technical definition of the Nebraska "campus." In
lealiiy. any collece building or about the so-called city campus,
whether within or without the gates, is on that campus. In connec
tion with that statement, we wonder if the rules about smoking on
the campus have been forgotten. For the most part, the men have
been ery considerate of that ruling this year but for a few excep
tors. We appreciate this spirit but wish to suggest that around the
Social Science Luilding. Teachers' College, Botany Building and the
aw College, cigarels have of late become an annoyance. To many
girls and some members of the faculty, cigaret smoke is unpleasant,
and it would be a fine courtesy to them to refrain from smoking
until entirely off the campus boundaries. It is Jelt that the moral
tone of the whole University would improve und'r these conditions.
PUNCTUALITY AND EXCUSES.
Are l'nivers;ty siudents naturally punctual? This might be-questioned
v,hn one looks out of the window to -watch the many
M Higglers hurrying to eight o'cHxhF. It sem the human tendency
to procrastinate to some extent although one knows that it is not
wise. Men say that "waiting" for girls would almost make a good
occupation at least take most of their time if possible. Yet girls
have something cm their fide also, if they have ever waited for a man
to settle a golf scote or an interesting argument. In all cases, it is
j tactically a general habit. But the Imprint thinks that punctuality
gets the best Jesuits on the long run. We used to say with much
1 a it h--"Never make excuses; your friends don't need them and your
enemies won't believe you anyway." We have reformed now. how
ever, and agree tbo'-oughly with the last statement of Imprint.
"There is only one fellow who ha found the jt of gold at the
end of the rainbow.
"There is nothing startling about bim, and unless you watch his
habits, you may not be able to discern any difference between bim
and the reEt of us.
"There is just one thing about bim that stands out above every
other trait:
"He is always on time always in the neighborhood when the
good things are passed out He's punctual.
"Punctuality makes excuses unnecessary-"
