It took a discerning and scrutmiz- (
ing eye to tell the difference between
"Jim," the prize bull dog of Francis
Diers, a university student, and the
lost brother of a S1.060 pit fighter,
belonging to Emmett Murphy, of Bur
well. The dog was the subject matter of
a replevin suit in Justice Stevens
court last week by which Murphy
represenlted by L. B. Cummins, a
Lincoln dog fancier, attempted ti se
cure the possession of Diers dog,
which he believed belonged to his
friend at Burwell. The description
of the lost dog which was first fur
nished by Murphy fitted Diers' dog in
every respect. After the action was
r.id Murphy sent a more detailed
description of his dog to Cumniings
and it was then decided that "Jim"
was not the missing brother of the
11,060 fighter.
Murphy's second description tallied
exactly with "Jim' with but one ex
ception. His missing pup had a
small brown spot on the top of his
head. The dog which Diers claimed
waa not so marked. Every other
marking, however, waa identical with
that of the Murphy dog.
The replevin suit was dismissed by
Justice Stevens with costs to ilie
plaintiff.
