1 TO DISTRIBUTE WAR PICTURES OVER STATE Council of Defanaa Arranaea With Government To Sacure Film The state council of dofense has ar ranged through the motion picture film department at Washington to dis tribute a largo number of films in Ne braska. These films will relate to the war, natural resources, industries and more particularly to patriotism. Mr. W. II. Ferguson, who Is a grain dealer of this city, was made chairman of the committee and Dr. G. E. Condra, bead pf the department of geography and conservation, was made director. The films will be received la Bets for use In the leading motion picture houses of the state. They will be dis tributed from the department at the University. Speakers will be selected to explain the films as they are run. The government Is now the largest manufacturer of motion pictures In the United States. It has secured the full capacities of some of the big plants manufacturing films. It Is thought that the University may have the priv ilege of showing these pictures. MILITARY NEWS A letter was received by Dean O. J. Ferguson from L. H. VaaDusen, cap 4ain Ord. It. C, which states that there Is a great seed of men with mechanical and technical training for positions in various branches of the ordnance de partment The letter urges that alumni and advanced students be In formed of the possibilities in this de partment Mechanical engineers, -mechanical draftsmen, engineers and electricians are especially in demand. Also stenog raphers and office clerks of all kinds are needed. There is an open competitive exam ination tor mechanical draftsmen who may enter on a salary of from $S00 to 11.400. Advanced salaries may be ob tained by those who have had more ex perience and can pass satisfactory ex aminations. Washington, D. C. RECEIVES SOIL MAP OF DODGE COUNTY The department of conservation of soil survey has Just received a large soil map of Dodge county. Neb. The work on this map and the report con nected with it was prepared by the state soil survey in co-operation with the United Bureau of Soil at Wash ington.
