Final preparations for the opening
of the Bchool of agriculture of the Uni
versity of Nebraska, October 12, are
nearing completion. Students are al
ready beginning to arrive at the Uni
versity farm to engage board and

Miss Ina Gittings is the head of the
physical training department in the
University of Montana.
Mrs. Rolfe Halligan (Kathleen
Doyle) is visiting her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. F. J. Doyle, in Lincoln.
Geraldine Johnson, '20, returned to
her home in Omaha Tuesday evening.
She has been spending the past week
at the Kappa Kappa Gamma house.
Majory Hessaltine, '19, and Ruth
Jorgenson, '18, will go to Omaha this
evening.

Grace Abbott, a former University
student, recently of Hull house, Chi
cago, has been appointed head of the
new child labor division of the chil
dren's bureau at Washington, D. C.
Miss Abbott will have charge of the
enforcement of the new federal child
labor law which went Into operation
September 1.
Edith Abbott. '01, of Chicago, writes
the alumni secretary that the consti
tionality of the law was attacked as
soon as it was passed. Dean Roscoe
Pound, '88, dean of the Harvard law
school, will assist the government in
defending tho law.
Harold J. Cook of Agate, Neb., r
former University student is the
guest of Prof. K. H. Harbour, head of
the department of geology, -this week.
Dr. John V. Cortelyou. '97, Ph.D. '01,
formerly head of the department of
Germanic languages at Manhattan,
Kan., is head of the department of
modern languages there now. He
writes tho alumni secretary: "We
have five large classes in beginning
French, and one in beginning Spanish
with a corresponding reduction in our
German classes. Hatred for the
kaiser has made itself felt in the
kaiser's language.
Prof. J. W. Searson, '96, A. M. '99,
professor of English literature at the
Kansas State Agricultural college at
Manhattan, is at Columbia university
on a year's leave-of-absence working
on his doctor's degree.
Prof. Ernest H. Holine, '11, profes

kota Wesleyan university at Mitchell,
S. D., and Helen M. Jess, 14, oi
Mitchell, were married the latter part
of July.

Delta Delta Delta Honor Pledge.
A pot luck luncheon was clvcn last
Saturday at the Delta Delta Delta
house in honor of the new pledges.
Delta Gamma Head to Visit. Mrs.
Payson J. Treat, grand president of
Delta Gamma sorority, from Leland
Stanford university will visit the local
chapter Thursday. The alumni will
give a dinner in honor of Mrs. Treat
Thursday evening.

It was announced at the First Con
gregational church Sunday that an
affiliate membership had been estab
lished, especially intended to meet the
needs of students and other Univer
sity people who expect to reside in
Lincoln only .a limited time. Such
persons will retain their membership
in their home churches. Announce
ment will be made next Sunday of
those who have united with the
church in this way.
