Go To Gas Fields. Harold Hoger
and Glen Wallace, students In the
Geology department, will leave the lat
ter part of this week to enter the em
ploy of the Empire Oil and Gas Co.,
at Barnesville, Okla.
Slave Act for Thesis. Irene D.
Kirschstein. A. B., 15, M. A. '16, doing
scholarship work at Cornell this year,
has chosen "The Fugitive Slave Act
of 1850" for her Doctor's thesis, ac
cording to a letter received by Prof.
H. W. Caldwell yesterday.
Professor Hrbkova Spoke. Prof.
Sarka B. Hrbkova of the department of
Slavonic languages and literatures, de
livered an address Tuesday afternoon
on the subject of "Present Day Politi
cal Problems in Russia," before the
members of the Travel Club of Lin
coln. Cement Products. The minerology
department received a complete col
lection of raw and refined products of
the cement industry this week from
the Mason City Cement Co., Masjrt
City, la. The specimens will be placed
on exhibition on the second floor of
the museum when not used in c'ass
work.
Pick and Himmer Lecture. John
Grimes, special chemist of the Great
Western Sugar Co., Billings, Montana,
addressed the Pick and Hammer Club
last night on the "Use of Limestone in
the Manufacture of Sugar." Grimes
re-entered the University this week
to take up advanced work in geolog
ical chemistry.
Watch Suffrage Vote. Instead of
the regular Thursday meeting of the
Business Women's club, the club will
go to the state capitol, Thursday aft
ernoon, to be present when the bill
providing for partial suffrage receives
the consideration of the senate. The
club is to meet in front of the library
at three o'clock.
Suffragist Luncheon TodayFif
teen or twenty co-ed suffragists and
a number of faculty women will lunch
this noon in the ball room of the Lin
coln hotel w ith the state and national
suffragists, who are in Lincoln in be
half of the partial suffrage bill now
before the senate. The luncheon be
gins at twelve o'clock.
Latin Club Gives Picture. The
Latin club, at their last regular meet
ing, surprised Prof. Grove E. Barber,
head of the department, with a photo
graph of himself, which it prespnteJ
to the University following an annual
custom of donating permanent gifts.
The picture is mounted in a neat
trame and bears an inscription from
the club.
Error in Make-Up. By the omission
of a line in making up the story about
the student council committee in yes
terday's Nebraskan, it was made to
read that Dean Carl C. Engberg was
the representative of the interfrater
nity council. It should read, "Dean
Engberg, representing the senate com
mittee on student affairs; Prof. P. M.
Buck, representing the interfratwnity
council."
Girls Basketball Postponed. The
girls' basketball' tournament, which
was to have been held February 19,
20 and 22 has been postponed until
February 6, 27 and 29. This is due
to the confusion which hag been
caused in the girls' dressing room by
the installation of the new lockert-.
The girls are practicing, however,
under the direction of Mrs. Lee and
the tournament promises to be ail the
better for the delay.
Komensky Klub Play. The Komen-
sky Club repeated Monday Its comedy
success, "The Girl's Seminary," which
will probably be one of the two plays
it will take out over the state during
spring recess. The following members
took part: Miss Bertha Shanek, pro
prietor of Seminary; Emll Polnicky,
sugar refiner; Miss Mae Hurka, his
daughter, a student; Miss Louise Sti
bal, another seminary girl; Miss Syl
vie Prokes, also a student; Miss Bess
Fitl, with ideas on girls' education;
Hugo M. Otoupalik, the much beloved
professor; Miss Emilie Hromas, pre
ceptress; Karl Janouch, the "practical"
Janitor.
