"THE MELTING POT"
WELL PRESENTED
(Continued from page 1)
misunderstands the newly created
American.
Quixano comes under the influence
of Vera Revendal, a social worker in
New York city, who interests her
millionaire friend, Quincy Davenport,
in the young artist with a view to send
him to Germany for further study.
Herr Pappelmeister, premier orches
tra conductor, pronounces Quixano's
American symphony a masterpiece,
and offers to have it produced before
the elite of the metropolis. This of
fer the artist spurns, alienating the
rich patron, Davenport.
When the Baron and Baroness Rev
endal visit their daughter Vera in New
York, Quixano discovers that the
Baron was in command of the sol
diers who killed his family, and se
verely wounded him in the massacre
of Ishneff. His Hebrew blood revolts
against association with this Russian
girl whom he has found he loves.
True love dominates finally, and Vera
and David face life together, led on
by the vision of America, the melting
pot of nations.
The work of Maurice Clark, as
David Quixano, showed an artistic
finish and ease so lacking in most
amateur theatricals. With a heavy
characterization part to carry, he did
not once allow his personality to over
shadow that of David Quixano. The
Jewish dialect was handled in admir
able style.
Ably supporting Maurice Clark, the
work of Miss Reeder was one of the
strong points of the play. Miss'
Reeder's voice is good, but her work
in the dramatic climax in the third
act was a bit too rough and unfin
ished to favorably compare with that
of Mr. Clark.
Mr. Marcellus, in a particularly
hard role at times allowed his off-stage
personality to dominate his part In the
production. Katherine O'Reilly, por
trayed by Miss Ella Williams, furnish
ed the comedy element of the play.
Miss Camille Leyda, the charming Rus
sian wife of Baron Revendal, fur
nished spirit to the brief scenes in
which she appeared. Mr. Home, as
Quincy Davenport, was a trifle too
dapper, but carried his part well. Herr
Pappelmeister, orchestra conductor,
was played well above the ordinary by
Mr. Kubik. The imagined leading of
of an orchestra through the American
symphony was a classic pice of ar-itsry.
One More Week for Pictures
Only a little over a week is left
before the closing date for organiza
tion Cornhusker pictures, and even
this lime is pretty well reserved.
There are still a few organizations
which have not scheduled dates with
Mr. Townsend, and it is up to these
few to act immediately if they care
to have their pictures in the annual
The management does not want it
felt that they are arbitrary in setting
a closing day for pictures, or that they
have a desire to keep any organiza
tion out of the book. But if the book
is to be out May 1 these dates must
be lived up to.

POPULARITY OR ABILITY?
The question of the purification of
campus politics is by no means a dead
issue with the completion of last au
tumn's class elections. The dean's of
fices in Cobb will again soon assume
the guise of polling places, anu votes
will be cast for candidates for the
Undergraduate council and Honor
commission. The movement begun
last quarter i'o eliminate the trading
of support and the agreements on
combinations insofar as so abstract a
campaign may be Judged was benefi
cial not only to the ballot on class
officers, but to the entire plane of
student afflairs. The Maroon believes
that an agreement of all candidates
for all offices to do everything in
their power toward the discontinuance
of election evils will aid in th propa
ganda for cleaner tactics in student
competition. The most dangerous re
sult of "log-rolling" and similar
ruses, is that men and womeu are
chosen to office, net because or their
capacity to perve the university, but
because they are Llest with a greater
number of friends. Daily Maroon
