VARIED PROGRAM CONVOCATION Engineers Annual Appearance Before Public Honorary Fraternity to Present Picture to College The invasion of the University by the Engineers for one week each year calls for an explanation on their part. Each year during Engineer's week, they take charge of one Convocation period and present some of their activities to the Nniversity public. The program is varied and an en deavor is made to make it of interest to the general student body. At this time, Sigma Tau. the honorary En gineering Fraternity, presents to the Engineering College a ffcmed picture of some man who has been active in and who is responsible for the growth of the Engineering College. Oklahoma Uni versity will play the Nebraska team on the University courts. SOME INTERESTING "DOPE' Packer and Mellor the Ames Star Husker Squad Working Hard and Outcome Likely to Be Decided in Sprints and Distance Ames competes with the Huskers on Nebraska Field, Saturday, in the first Valley meet of the season. To win the first meet is half the campaign, and knowing this full well. Coach Reed and his squad are putting forth every effort in preparation for the opening of the Valley season Saturday. The Cyclones have a formidable ar ray of sprinters and distance men, headed by Mellor, Packer, and Bour land. The meet will probably be de cided in these events, for Nebraska's weakness in the jumps is offset by scarcity of weight material in the Ames camp. Packer is the particular star of the Ames squad, and will represent the Farmers in both the high and low hurdles, the discus, the shot put, and the broad jump. Mellor is entered in the 440 and the half-mile relay. At the Drake games, running first for Ames in the mile event, the Cyclone sprinter wa.s caught at 50Vs, which is exceptional time. Mellor ran first for Ames at Drake, but it is probable that he will finish for the Cyclones, Satur day. Some interesting dope may be had by comparing the time made by the Cyclone athletes in the annual home meet which the Iowa school holds in preparation for the first Valley strug gle, and the summary of the Husker Coyote meet last Friday. Mellor, run ning the four-forty, covered the dis tance in o5; Bates' time in the Coyote meet was 54. Packer, in the low hurdles, made 28; Goetze won first for Nebraska in the Wesleyan meet in 2SH- The fastest time in the Ames home meet at 100 yards was 10; Scott and Irwin, ran neck and neck at 10 V Burris. Ames' varsity represen tative in the high jump, cleared the bar at 5 feet 7 inches. At University Place the Huskers were eliminated at 5 feet four inches. In the broad jump. Packer sailed through the air a dis tance of 19 feet 7 inches; Nebraska's best mark last Friday wa3 18 feet 10 inches.
