The Rock Island has had its safety
union for about three years. The men
meet once a week, take dinner to
gether and talk safety practice;
recommendations for improvement are
taken from shopmen, trainmen and
officers alike. Not only safety on their
rolling stock, but also in the shops is
considered by this company, and
everything from the simplest bit of
machinery in the shop to the locomo

with a view of finding the safest
method of using it
