TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8. 1914
For it stirs the blood in an old man's
heart;
And makes his pulses fly,
To catch the thrill of a happy voice.
And the light of a pleasant eye.

"Do your Christmas studying now,"
savs the editor of the Minnesota Daily.
Would that all people had a sense
of humor! Contrary to the beliefs of
some, we do not lie awake at nights
planning ways and means of molest
ing a certain worthy religious organi
zation. TRIVIAL LAWS
In the Lawrence strike of 1912
mobs paraded flags bearing the in
scription. "No God, Xo Master." So
the next winter the Massachusetts
legislature, as legislatures will, passed
a law that red flags be kept out of
all parades. This they hoped would
end one form tf disrespec to God and
the capitalists.
As sometimes happens, the wrong
animal got in the trap. Says a recent
decision of the Massachusetts Su
preme uJdicial Court: "The words of
the statute are sweeping and make no
exceptions in favor of political parties,
social organizations, society, bene
ficiary' or other associations." In fact,
the words were so sweeping that they
caught the Harvard crimson. The
students now carry a white flag with a
little red "H" in the center.
Presumably Massahcusetts has sat
isfactorily disposed of all its impor
tant social problems and ambitious
legislators are trying hard to find
something new to regulate. We sug
gest that they decide whether tan
shoes should be permitted at evening
parties, whether it Is permissable for
women to accept presents from their
men friends, and 'whether a man
should wear a belt or suspenders.
Of course, if a legislature has a few
unsolved problems on hand and real
izes that adverse social conditions can
be made less hard by earnest thought
and action, we do not think they
should take time to pass freak laws
in an attempt to regulate trivial mat
ters of conduct.
