University students predominate In
the membership, of the newly organ
ized Young Men's Democratic Club.
The first meeting of the club was held
in the county democratic headquarters
Tuesday night. J. J. Morrissey and
Captain Dolan expounded the princi
ples of the democratic party. Officers
were elected, resolutions presented
and approved by the new club. The
new officers of the organization are as
follows: President, Joe Johnson, vice
president, A. C. Smith; secretary,
Ernest Graves;-treasurer, Joe Ferris.
An executive committee of five mem
bers was also selected with Silas
Bryan, nephew of the great commoner,
as chairman. Remarks were made by
some that the Kappa Sig machine had
been well oiled. Bill Ritchie, who pre
sided at the initial meeting of the
Woodrow Wilson club read the resolu
tions. Felix Newton, was loud in his
criticism of the management. He de
clared that the crowd was 'exactly the
same one that attended the Wilson
club meeting last week.

souri Valley Conference cnaiupionsnip.
South Dakota, they say, is undoubtedly
stronger than any Conference team
except Nebraska.
"Keep your opponents from scoring.
Your own score will take care of it
self," is said to be the slogaur of the
new Jayhawk mentor, Jack Wheaton.
He hopes to develop a kicker to do the
scoring for K. U. this fall.
CaDtain Detwiler of the Jayhawk
squad, who broke a leg in the Kansas
Drake game, last fall, received a se-
Ivere injury to his shoulder in early
doubtful if he will be in shape for the
game with Drake, Saturday. Detwiler
is a halfback.
