As far as wo aro "able to discover, tho first written report concerning the organizing of a School of Pharmacy In the University of Nebraska was made by a committee appointed by former Chancellor E. Benjamin An drews In the spring of 1907. Tho com mittee consisted of Dr. Samuol Avery rhowTXJliahcolIof), Dr. ChOrlos E. Bos sey, senior dean of the University and head of tho Department of Botany, and Dr. II. B. Ward, dean of the Col lego of Medicine. Tho report of the committee considered tho subjects of organization, requirements for admls slon, courss of study, lho expense to tho University, and room space for tho school. Tho report was full of valuablo suggestions. No specific recommendations were made. It end ed with tho following conclusion: "The College of Modiclne and the Departments of Botany and Chemistry will, If the University authorities do clda to establish, a School of Phar macy, co-oporato to make a success in all respects." In tho fall of the year new Interest was aroused In the prospective School of Pharmacy and the name of Dr. Ly man of tho Department of Pharmacol ogy waa added to the above named committee. Plans were laid for an organization and were presented by Chancellor Andrews to the Board of Regents and approved by thorn on April 23, 1908. Dr. R. A. Lyman was made director, Mr. F. J. P. Hanson, a prominent retail druggist of tho state, became lecturer In com mercial pharmacy. At a later dato Miss Elsie Day was elected instructor In pharmacognosy and Mr. H. L. Thompson' assistant In pharmacy. Tho first year the total registration amounted to twelve students. The registration has steadily Increased year by year. Last year tho number, was forty-seven, and this year there are thirty-sovon. The first class, three In number, was graduated in 1910. From tho beginning, two, three and four year courses have been given. It is an interesting fact that twenty-five per cent of the students nt the present time aro registered Tn the four-year course leading to the bachelor's de gree. Up to tho last year a sixteen point high school courso Tias been required for entrance to the short course in pharmacy, but now a thirty-point high school course is required of all matric ulates for the degrees in the School of Pharmacy. It gives the faculty and student body alike much satisfaction to know, that In the first five years of tho ex istence of tho School of Pharmacy its work has been of such a nature as to place it upon the "registered" lists "of such examining boards as those of the states of Iowa, Illinois and Now York. I may be a little bq hind with the pills, but I'm about six weeks ahead with tho whisky." An old woman stepped Inio a sub urban drug store and laid on tho countora proscription calling for a mixture containing two decigrams of morphia. Tho druggist exercised tho utmost care in weighing out the dangeroUB drug. "What a shame," she cried. "DorJt lie so stingy. It's for an orphan-girl?'
