Considerable anxiety was manifest yesterday among those associated with the work of tho Glee and Mandolin Clubs over tho stand that would be taken by tho University Senato with regard to tho appearance of tho mem bers recontly roportod delinquent. It was hopod, of course, that neither tho University authorities nor tho Club management would be forced to any thing oxtromo. In view of thlB, is it fair to deny it representation? Furthermore, if it Is denied fair treatment, what will be the natural result on tho men who have been standing up for the University? What is tho beBt policy not for debate, but for the good pf the University? Settlement Fellowship, The Association of Collegiate Alum nal, In conjunction with the College Settlement Association, offers for the year 1907-98 a fellowship of five hun dred dollars for the investigation of social conditions. This fellowship is open to graduates of all colleges rep resented in thp Association of Colleg iate Alumnae. Tho Gleo and Mandolin Clubs aro organizations of tho Univer sity and In tho field are certainly do ing tho University great credit; they aro serving as a very effoctlvo ad vertisement, and so deserve tho sup port of the University public. These various features of tho UnU versity aro what lend It breadth, and it probably pays any student well to take advantage of some of these "side plays"; probably anybody Is broader for doing something besides follow a certain courso of studies. Life is not all theory. The thing, it seems, to be remembered Is simply this: These side features should remain in their place at the side. Tho University course is first and uppermost and made for tho coming next month of tho distinguished traveler, lecturer and writer, W. E. Goll, well known thru his book, "Tho Yankee on the Yang-tso."
