An example of loyalty rarely seen here at Nebraska was witnessed by thoso attending tho track meet last Saturday. And the exhibition wasn't exactly pleasant to tho beholders. The loyalty consisted In several bows of tho silver and gold of Colorado re posing serenely In prominent places upon sovoral Nebraska girls. Ivy Day program as had been promise ed by the management of tho club. And no fault attaches to the. manage ment. All was done that could be done to get tho men together for a preliminary rehearsal, but too few re ported to make a rehearsal worth while. Tho support accorded tho Qleo Club by the University this year has been of the best and tho work of the Club has merited the support. But tho mission of a University Glee Club is not to appear once at a home con cert, tnko a trip out of town and dls biyid. Its mission Is to help out at every university runctlon where Its presence is desirable. The Glee Club may well take the Cadet Band for an example. Whenever the band has been needed there It has usually been found. With Its career only just be ginning and Its foundation none too firm the Glee Club can HI afford to jeopardize its future by refusing to cheerfully give its services to the Uni versity when needed. Officers Dined. Monday evening Captain Chase gave a banquet at tho Lindell hotel to the officers of tho Battalion, as a mark of appreciation or tho faith ful and efficient service. The ban quet, consisting of ten courses, was very elaborate and was thoroughly en joyod by tho officers. Much enthusiasm was malfest and Captain Chase was loudly praised by those who spoke. Fifteen of the active officers were present and several ex-officers, includ ing Major Hewitt, Captain Ringer, Hurtz, Lundin, and Bowlby partook of the hospitality of the Commandant. Captain ChaBe acted as toastmaster and called on the following, who re sponded informally: Major Hewitt, Captains Ringer, Hurtz, Lundin, Shel don, Bowlby, White, Ramsey and Hyde, Adjutant Towne and Quarter master Smith. During the course of the 6venlng a committee was appointed to draw up resolutions recommending that all of ficers and spectators on tho side lines uncover during tho playing or the na tional anthem at dress parade. Registrar Lcxlaoton, Km OX courso no harm waa done other than to aond a Bort of shiver of disap pointment and a feeling of misplaced confidence through those who saw Ne braska's rival's colors In such envl ablo places. These Httlo girls, prompted by a plrlt of "lot's bo naughty," forgot for a moment that such naughtiness might really bo naughty. There are lot's of ways of being naughty besides wearing colors hostile to Nebraska. Tho next time that tho spirit of naughtiness comeB so irreslstably over these little girls they should give vent to their feelings some other way. All nppearaYicea of naughty disloyalty to Nebraska ought to be avoided. The Glee Club deserves some criti cism for the failure to appear on the felt that the Commercial Club has been trying to run In a class of play ers that tho Faculty had not expected to meet, so a new nine (has been select: ed. After the announcement that such men as I. M. Raymond, J. E. Miller Mayor Brown and others wore to play, it was felt that the Faculty would have to call out some of Its more experi enced players to meot them. The Commercial Club will And that It let tho secret out too Boon. Tho new line up will be as follows: Catcher Ross. Pitcher Caldwell. First base Luckoy. Second base Howard. Third base Dean Davis. Short stop Fossler. Left field Lees. Center field Barber. Right field Dean Pound. Ross Bays that ho feels that Ire '-ckd. The positions will all bo ably filled, but tho place of short stop has been unusually fortunate In getting Prof. Fossler to preside over Its destinies. Prof. Barber expects to dismiss his classes In order to get more time to practice, as he does not propose that any man In the field shall outshine him. Luckey, Howard and Davis make a trio of basemen that cannot bo excelled. Let the Com mercial Club come on with their bankers, wholesale and retail mer chants.
