Mr. Charles Engel, whose duties aB football managqr ended with the elec tion of Mr. Uuekner yesterday, fs de serving of great praise for the manner In which ho managed the team. The position of manager In one of great re sponsibility, the duties are both numer ous and perplexing, and much of the success of the season depends upon the manager. We congratulate Mr. Engel for having acquitted himself bo cred itably. It Is unfortunate that through neces sity the state teachers' Institute is held during the holiday season, at the time when the students are absent from the university. It Ib an Invalua ble chance for any student who In tends to teach next year to get ac quainted with the educators of the state. Besides this the program offered is worth listening to and is worth the registration fee and expense of being In attendance. Every student who In tends to go Into teaching would find it to tlve utmost Importance that he or she be In the city during those days. Debate Questions Settled Two of the inter-Btate questions have been definitely decided upon. The Kanbas question Is, "Resolved, That as a general principle the continuous op eration of public service Industries in the United States should be insured by legislation compelling the arbitra tion of disputes between the compa nies and their employes." The other question is, "Resolved. Thot experiences proed that the con centiatlon of ast aggregations of cap ital in tho hands of single prUate'man uhuturing (oiporutions is inimical to public welfaie." These questions are regarded by the I)( bating boaid as most excellent. They ate llo. pioscnt-da questions, and the students who imestigate them will be well repaid In the knowledge they will :u'iiiie on two of the mo .t important question engaging the attention of the (ountryti usts and compulsory arbi tration. In the preliminary debates these que t.t Ions will be discussed The dates of the preliminaries hae not boon set, but they will undoubtedly take plae e late In January. To prepaic for the preliminaries a number of the candidates for places on the Inter-state leans have arranged to remain in Lincoln all or part of the wuntion. Sorry to Refuse The airhal of a challenge to debate from the law school of Georgtown Unl etbity makes the Debating boaid re gretful that it has not the money to warrant the establishment of debate relations with an eastern institution with the rank in debate that George town has. The Georgtown law stu dents are mainly college graduates. For several yeais their debating teams havo been very strong. Georgtown has debated with the University of Penn sylvania. J. P. Koehler, last year's football center, and popularly known as "Dea con," appeared at the university yes terday. He looks bigger than ever and attests to the training of Coach Stagg of Chicago. "Deacon" lias been play ing guard with Chicago the past sea son and made a good record. He is now on his way to Superior to spend the holidays at Ills home. He ofllclatecJ at the basket ball games last night. Reynold Kanzler of Kearney, was a guest of his brother Jacob at the Delta Upsllon house Tuesday. The students in the short course in agriculture will begin work In the shops after the Christinas holidays. Professor Swezey will leave for Washington, D. C, Saturday, where ho will attend the meeting of the associa tion for the advancement of sciences. Professor Swezey will not return until after the holidays.
