From the ragged footbull Wisconsin
put up .Saturday it would 8eem that
tho Thanksgiving game with North-
tar T?ttH ttt tht- realms of pos
sibility
The following editorial Is clippt'd
fioin tho Minnesota Dally:
Tho game Saturday, while not a
championship contest, was one of the
hardest fought and most important
battles which Minnesota will be called
upon to wage this Benson. Coming as
it did. thus early In the season the out
come meant a great deal to Minnesota
in her race for the championship. Ow
ing to the fact that the team had not as
yet boon rounded Into the form In
which they should be for a champion
ship game the result was looked for
ward to with considerable doubt and
dread.
Had Nebiaska scored or oen suc
ceeded in holding us down to one or
oven two touchdowns our piospects
for tho pennant would have exper
ienced a decided slump. But had the
Cornhuskors won. as they claimed to
he confident of doing. Minnesota would
have been practically out of the race,
imd In about the same position in
wostem athletic affairs as she was be
fore last year's successes.
Tho game was, In short, looked upon
as the critical point of the season. The
(iophers must not only win. but must
also keep their opponents from scoring
and must show their superiority In all
points of the game. All this they did
and more, scoring three touchdowns
and a safety with ease and keeping
their own gbal line out of danger at
all times. Minnesota played fast, line
football from start to finish, and won
the game on its merits. Sue has prov
en to the football world that her rise
labt fall was not merely meteoric, but
that she has come to stay in the front
rank in western athletics, and that
whoever wins the championship over
her will have to work night and day
to do It.
