Che Conservative. 15 There are a great rliy tnryt a and agreeable let ters and published notices about THE CONSERVATIVE placed before us upon our return from New York. They con cur in pronouncing TIIE CONSERVATIVE an attractive and interesting periodical. Generally they predict prosperous and long life for THE CONSERVATIVE. All scorn to wish its editor health , happi ness and. usefulness. But no patron , no friendly reader of this journal can be more strongly attracted by its columns than its editor is by the labor of pro perly preparing them for perusal. The readers of TIVK who may re call a descriptive article relative to the Indian congress at the Omaha Exposi- . tioii which appeared in the issue of Aug ust 8 , 1898 , will find the same repro duced , credited to THE CONSERVATIVE , and vividly illustrated in the October Review of Reviews. The fact that popocratic orators and journalists in Omaha and throughout Douglas county claim Senator William Vincent Allen as one of the visible statesmen whoso time , efforts and future official and political influence are pledged wholly and unreservedly to Omaha will not cause activity for Allen in some other portions of Nebraska. For genuine 'anti-monopolists to organize a political trust , and with the voracity of a syndi cate , and the cupidity of Wall Street brokers , claim all of Allen's great pow ers and influence as their own local prop erty is indeed a commentary upon their antagonism to corners and the concen tration of capital in corporate forms , Attention is called to the masterly money article in this number of THE CONSERVATIVE by Mr. Louis R. Bhrich , of Colorado. For a imrnber of years this most fecholarly and accomplished gentleman has been diligently investi gating the methods and systems of metallic money all the world over. As a large owner of silver mines he began his work with a leaning or bias towards the free coinage of that metal. But his love of truth and his fidelity to candor led him to conclusions adverse to silver. In this paper he has with great lucidity and beauty of logic and good taste given to the public the results of his patient study. _ No man should be elected representa tive from Otoo county who is not a prompt taxpayer and a faithful believer in the justice of paying debts in money of as much purchasing power as money had when the debts were contracted. Next week THE CONSERVATIVE will contain the very able , instructive and interesting paper "The History of the Gold Standard , " by Mr. Horace White , editor of the New York Evening Post ARGO GLOSS STARCH 4 i * Is the whitest , purest and strongest of nil Starches ; is pecul iarly adapted to fine Fabrics and Laces , and gives to all Clothes a beautiful , snow-white Satiny Finish that is so much desired and admired.
