it is announced that Hon K H Tay
lor of Ohio has been compelled to can-
eel his engagement to speak in this city
Saturday afternoon but his place will
bo tilled by Hon O 1 Green of Omalfu
who is said to bo one of tho best speakers
of that city and will undoubtedly bo
able to interest all who attend Sonator

Hd Hlcy and 11 II Hcrbifion of Madi
son weio In the city yesterday Mr
Illoy has recently returned from Manila
whore ho held tho position of pay masters
clerk in Deweys squadron Ho loft
Madison four yoais ago last May and
after spending a year and a half on tho
Pacific coast decided to join tho navy
and enlisted for a term of three years
in September 1810 Ho was assigned
to duty on tho gunboat Potrol which
was connected with tho Asiatic squadron
and was in tho ongagomont at Manila
His friends gavo him a most cordial re
ception on his roturn homo last Wednes

That ox Congressman O H Towno
met with a chilly reception in Norfolk
last night will not bo denied even by
the most pronounced fusiouists In
tho list placo tho heating nrrangomont
of tho hall had not been installed for the
winter and was only heated by tho large
lamps and in tho second instanco the
crowd was not as largo nor enthusiastic as
had been anticipated tho Times Tribune
giving the number in attendance at but
about 200 which is small indeed when
it is considered that Mr Towno is a
speaker of national prominence and one
of tho best orators in the fusion ranks
In all fairness it must bo conceded that
tho weather was somewhat at fault
and perhaps served to keep many away
who had planned to attend Mr
Townos remarks wi re mainly devoted
to the imperialism of tho present ad
ministration and no doubt he enlightened
his audience as to just where that much
talked of policy was located which
would bo gratifying to fiiends as well as
ononiics of the administration who were
not permitted to hear his speech Tho
omperor has beon oxtreuicly relucant
about proclaiming himself but tho
average fusion orator would have tho
people believo that ho is about to do so
Tho serfs now composing tho govern
ment will undoubtedly bo surprised to
awake some morning and And that they
cannot movo hand or foot without the
sanction of ono man thoemperor
who holds in his power their freedom
thoir property and their lives But
really Mr Towno and his co patriots
will havo to talk a good deal harder and
a good deal ofiouer to convince the
peoplo that nuy such change of govern
ment is impending and he will have
some trouble to couviuce the voters that
he and his associates ropresont the best
the only and the truest brand of pat
riotism

Work on tho now opera honso iH mov
ing right along and tho walls of tho
busoniont aro now about completed Tho
work of putting in tho floor will soon
oommonce tho materials being now on
tho ground
An incident that took placo this morn
ing was rather out of the ordinary and
promised for a tlmo to develop con
ntdorntilo excitement Herman Piller
who owns tho property adjoining tho
oiora honso on tho ouft was under tho
impression that tho walls wcro built onto
his lot almut two feet and he with his
son-in-law Anton Huoholz commenced
to tour down thewall using an ax and a
brick in the process Mr Warrant told
them to cease and his first impulse was
to forcibly rotnovo thorn from tho wall
but his second thought was that ho
would pursue a bettor courso by allowing
tho law to handle them Ho thoroforo
went to Police Judge Hayes and swore
out a warrant for their arrest which
was served by Ohief of Police Widainan
The gentlemen appeared before tho
court and on their request tho caso was
postponed until tomorrow afternoon at
oclock
Mr Warrant feels that his courso is
justifiable in tho eyes of tho law Ho
had two surveys made of tho proporty
by Engineer Lowo and oaoh time it was
found that his lot extended onto tho prop
erty fenced in by Mr Piller about six feet
All ho wanted for his purpose was two
feet giving Mr Piller tho four remain
ing feet
Ho then went to Mrs Piller and Mr
Huoholz and secured thoir consent to the
romoval of the fence and buildings in tho
way and went ahead and put up tho wall
It is generally conceded that Mr Piller
if ho had objection to tho arrangement
should havo prevonted tho removal of
the fence and tlio construction of tho
wall Slnco tho property is now occu
pied by tho wall it is in Mr WarruntB
possession and his attempt to movo it
could hardly bo warranted under law
It is regretted that this misunder
standing has occurred and it is hoped
both by tho friends of Mr Piller and
those of Mr Warrant that tho matter
will bo satisfactorily adjusted

it appears that one idle day tho frog

Just what sort of a show it was the

wassomething that the queerly assorted
quartet was anxious to attend and thoy
hopped and waddled and gamboled and
trotted toward tho big canvass enclosure
with delightful throbs ot anticipation
Finally they reached tho door tender
tho frog lending tho line
Well the frog had a greenback aud

The duck hud n bill and followed the
frog
Tho lamb had four quarters and fol
lowed tho frog nnd duck
But the unfortunate skunk was left
on the outside Ho only had ascent
Natnrally ho turned away feeliug
pretty blue
As he was slowly going back over the
hill he met a hoop snake rolling along
at a lively rate toward the show
Tho skunk greeted him bnt tho snake
did not stop
Dont interrupt me ho cried over
hiB shoulder Ive got to do a turn
and Im a little late
And he rolled along
At the top of a hill the skunk noticed
another old friend approaching It was
the sardine
Hullo cried the sardine whats

So the skunk told him
I can guess how yon feel about it
said the sardine sympathetically I
