For the information of mayor and
city couucil I herewith give the follow
ing
Within the nast two weeks I have
gone over the streets and sidewalks of
tho city on a tour of inspection for the
purpose of ascertaining what improve
should be made ou tho streets at the
present time and reporting the same
I find of the 180 wooden street cross
ing about 50 iu more or leBS bad condi
tion and of tho 85 wood culverts nbout
10 of no service and about the same
number will soon have to be replaced
I would recommend that as soon as
required wooden culverts be replaced
with sower pipe and wooden cross
walks replaced with stone The average
life of wooden culverts and wooden
crossings is not more than flvo years
and tho dinerenco or cost oi wooaen ana
stone crossings is very little and tne
cost of wooden culverts and sewer pipe
is about tho same
Sidowaks in many places are in need
of being re bnilt and I would recom
mend briok for walks Cost about the
same as wooden walks There has been
a great improvement in putting a large
number of brick walk in the past year
in resident part of city All new con
structed sidewalks should be of briok
I find approximate as follows
Number of stone crossings in
the oity oo
Number of wooden crossings
inthocity 160
Vnmlier of wooden culverts
in the citv 33 1250ft
Vnmher of sow or DiD6 cul
verts in the city 25 688 ft
TCrnnhnr of stone sidewalks
in the city 550ft
Number of brick sidewalks
intheoity 7585ft
Number of wooden sidewalks
in the city 80 miles
All of which is respectfully submitted
