delinquent personal property taxes in Clierry
County that the collectors will be started out
again about August 1st looi aud that ALL per-
where the persons owing the same has property
that can be levied upou see Sec 4372 compiled
statutes Nebr 1899
The law provides that the Treasurer shall
make report at the October meeting of the
Board of Co Comrs that he has tried to collect
every tax on the books and that he has collect
ed every personal tax or else that the persons
owing the tax his no property on wliuh levy
could be made
We will make this report according to law
October 1st this year

last Saturday in the interest of his
stock business under the firm name

Robt Dickson one of the popular
old time cattlemen of this part of
the country came down from Gordon
last Saturday and spent tne clay in
this city on business
Elmer Cole returned last Sunday
from his trip up the road and is again
seen occupying his position in W F

Miss Hattie Maier presents the

Mrs J A Hooton returned last
Sunday morning after a visit of near
ly two months with relatives and
friends in Indiana and Wisconsin
She reports having had a very pleas
ant visit and looks much better for

Monday and hence Mrs Moran will go
to West Virginia to visit her father
and brother Mr Carney Miss Ada
will xeturn after a two weeks yisit
with friends and relatiyes
J E Cochran and wife came up
from their ranch near Woodlake last
Monday afternoon and remained in
this city a few days visiting with
their many friends The big Indian
dance here Monday evening was of
particular interest to Mr and Mrs
Cochran
Major C E McChesney Indian
agent at Rosebud agency came over
to this city Tuesday to look after the
transportation of government freight
to the agency Mr McChesney is
diligent in his attentention to the de
tails of the office and is popular and
well liked whereever known
Miss Mabel E Hahn left here last
Wednesday morning in the company
of Mr Huska and family ior a visit
of two or three weeks with them in
their Franklin county Iowa home
She expects to return in time to at
tend the teachers institute here this
summer and will continue in school
work tor which she has proven her
self so capable
Word comes from Gordon that aft
er seven years of happy wedded life
Mr and Mrs Ed Parry are the proud
parents of an eight pound girl baby
born July 15 The mother and child
are doth doing well Mr and Mrs
Parry are well known around Valen
tine having lived here for years and
have many friends here The Dem
ocrat extends congratulations
H B Cox who has held a clerkship
in the government employ at Rose
bud agency for the past six years
and who is well known here has been
transferred to the Indian office at
Washington D C Mr Cox left here
last Wednesday morning expecting
to enter upon his new duties immed
iately and although his many friends
here regret seeing him leave they
all wish him the success that his
ability merits His family will follow
him in a few days
Frank Huska brother-in-law of
Ben Hobson returned last Wednes
day morning to his home in Franklin
county Iowa after spending several
months here visiting with his rela
tives Mr Huska won many friends
during his short stay in this country
and should he ever contemplate leav
ing Iowa to seek a location here we
would gladly welcome him Mr Hus
kas wife and children were here with
him during the latter part of the vis
it and aiso accompanied him to their
home
Sister Mary Lorentia of the con
vent in Omaha sister of Mrs W E
Hale3r accompanied by Sister Bor
gia arrived here last Friday night
for a few weeks visit Sibter Marv
Lorentia is here partly to regain her
health and while here her sisters Mrs
J C Hayes of Park Citv Utah and
MissMHMcNichorsof Aspen Col
orado accompanied by her brother
W H McNicholswho is well known
here having- been clerk in the post
ofllce for over two years during Mr
Haleys terra as post master will vis
it here They will all stay here dur
ing the summer at the home of Mr
Haley and this will no doubt be a
pleasant family reunion
