The Cody Cow Boy advocates the
election of Pat Crowe to the United
States senate The principal objection
to the election of the Honorable Fat is
his simslarity to Coal Oil Johnny Thurs
ton nobodv knows whero to find him
Governor Lind of Minnesota retired
from office on Tuesday of last week
and immediately called on the editor of
a St Paul newspaper and slapped his
face because the editor had said Lind
was a traitor some time last fall
As a rule Ae will stand up for the edit
orial fraternity through thick and thin
but in this case our sympathies are
with Lind No editor has a right to
accuse any person of treason because
that person differs from him politically
Through Representative Gallogly and
Senator VanBoskirk Dr W 15 Ely of
Ainsworth once a republican politician
of note has introduced bills in the state
legislature providing for the reappor
tionment of the state legislative dis
tricts The bill provides that the 12th
senatorial district shall be numbered
the 29th and consist of the same coun
ties as at present The 52nd represen
tative district is torn up lveya Paha
county being put in with lirown Eock
and Blaine for legislative purposes and
Cherry Giant Hooker Thomas Logan
and Mcrherson couuties are to com
pose the 70th district We dont know
what grudge the Doctor has against
this county butittist be something
deep or he would notjrojse totangle
us up in that manner Douglas county
is more closely connected with Cherry
than ara McPherson or Logan
Because its editor happens to own
property in the north portion of town
the Republican last week made a vile
attack upon the hoard of county com
missioners because they saw fit to se
seTect as a location for the court house
lots near the center of town A court
house is a public building and m
ing it the interests of the entire people
should he taken into consideration and
the commissioners representing the
people have made the wisest possible
choice Centrally located within two
blocks of the center of town in easy ac
cess to all and with pleffty of room and
light the court bouse site as Eelcced is
all that could be desired Barkers
property may not be enhanced in value
hy the location of the huilding within
the city limits but the people at large
will applaud the commissioners upon
their good sense in refusing to listen to
sentimental talk about beautiful sites
and such and using gocd busi
ness judgment in their choice
A stiange individual visited Valen
tine last week and took the morning
freight for Cody When he got as far
Crookston he got off aud took the first
train back to Valentine Later he hir
ed a livery rig and drove south of town
for several miles with no seeming ob
jective point in view Suddenly he
whirled about aud ordered the driver
to head for Valentine again He talk
ed but littie and his peculiar actions

I
Many people have remarked upon
the brilliancy of our basement contem
porarys editorial page during the last
two or three months and many compli
ments have been paid Barker upon
what our exchanges have thought was
his awakening from a Rip Van Winkle
sleep The soliloquoy of our brother
which follows may throw a little light
on the matter and confirm the suspic
ions of many
BARKERS SOLILOQUY
When I sit by myself at the close of the day
And watch the blue twilight turn amber then
gray
With fancies that should be but are not
bright as stars
Nor distant like they from this lifes earthly jars
There comes oer me stealing
A curious feeling
And I study oer what would become of my
paper
And howl would justify its last mad caper
If Johnston left
When I walk down the avenue all by myself
I hear botli the businessman and the small lf
Who is just coming home from his lessons at
school
Say There goesthat jimswizzled dizzy old tool
Who hasnt the brains
To handle the reins
And run his own paper And then I wonder
If I could keep things from going to thunder
If Johnston lelt
When at home on my couch where all shoud be
peace
I wander in dreamlaud aud feel riuitc at ease
Till up comes my nightmare that horrid old
spectre
Which haunts me and mocks me aud at me doth
lecture
For being an ass
At the foot of the class
And reads me my own editorials bricht
And hints that such cute thing I nevecould
write
If Johnston left
Een when in the office where Im tlia master
Of a pre that is fust and a lie machine faster
I cant get away from the thought of my folly
Iu listening to Johnston when he gave a jolly
I realize sure
That I am a poor
Dumb newspaper man with a great reputation
Which would go out of sight as quick as tarnation
If Johnston left
Queen Victoria is dead She died
Tuesday evening about 5 oclock
The Queen ruled longer than any other
ruler being 18 years of age at the time
of her accession to the throne and reign
