rine streets striking on the back of his
head- The little fellow waJtakentd

shock very nicely but Wednesday
evening became worse and on account
of Dr Evans absence at Cody Dr

was done for the boy that could be
but twas of no avail Friday morn
ing about 1145 oclock his spirit left

197 PERSONS VOTED FOR BONDS
AND 1 7 VOTED AGAINST
10000 was the Sum Yoted The Building
will beMade of Stone and Work will
be done by by Home Laborers
Last Friday February 5 School District To 1 Cherry county
Nebraska which is comjjosed principally of the Village of Valentine
decided by a vote of 157 to IT to issue bonds in the sum of 10000
and levy a tax therefor for the purpose of building and furnishing
a new school house fr
Let the eagle scream beat the tomtoms look pleasant roll up
your sleeves and holler for Valentine the best town in Nebraska has
retrieved her reputation and the shack which has eo long been used
for school purposes will be abolished ere winter conies again
The practically unanimous vote in favor of the bonds was a great
surprise to eveu their most enthusiastic advocates Considerable noise
was made by a few in opposition but the necessity was so urgent that
the opposition finally narrowed down to a question of location and
at last almost ceased as the vote shows The election was held in
the county judges office between the hours of 1 and 4 oclock p m
and more than 50 votes were cast in the first half hour after the polls
were opened so eager were the people to secure the improvement
Of course up to date very little is known regarding the size or
general plan of the building to be erected but work will be com
menced as soon as the plans and specifications are selected bonds dis
posed of method of construction decided urjon etc It is thought
thsit the bonds will bring perhaps a small premium The building
will probably be built of native stone by home labor and will be
constructed under the supervision of a competent builder who may or
may not be employed from abroad The building will contain six
or seven grade rooms principals office library cloak rooms halls
basement closets etc and be heuted with hot air

Corn as Fuel
While in Longpine recently the
editor was treated to the novel sight of
business men burning corn for fuel in
stead of coal The fire is quickly
started burns steadily and gives
about as much heat as a coal fire and
the editor was assured that it is far
cheaper Valentine could not afford
to indulge in the luxury of a corn fire
however when the cereal is selling
here at 60 cents per hundred
