Moore Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Cald well Chapel for Samuel L. Moore with Rev. Oene Swim, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating- Interment was in the Thurman Cemetery at Thurman, Iowa. Mrs. Twyla Hodge had charge of the music. Pallbearers were George Blat- Izer, John Hobschcidt, E. E. ! Leach, Carl Ofe, H. L. Oldfield and Louis Schiessl. I Mr. Moore was born Aug. 28, 1887, son of David and Sarah "Peeler Moore, at Bartlett, Iowa. He was married to Jessie Dins July 27, 1942 at Plattsmouth. Mrs. Moore survives, along with one brother, Harvey Moore, Thurman, Iowa, and sister, Mrs. Harry Long, Springfield, III. A brother, George Moore, preced ed him in death in Oct. 1963, Shenandoah, Iowa. Mr. Moore was a member of the Christian Church at Bartlett, l0a - , ., He worked for many years for the Norfolk Packing Co. here. Urtion Memorial At Weeping Water WEEPING WATER (Special I At the suggestion of the Weep ing Water Chamber of Com merce, all the stores In the city were closed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and a Union Mem orial Service was held in mem ory of the late president J. F Kennedy. The service was held at the Methodist Church at 11:15 a.m. and was planned by Pastor I. C. G. Campbell. A Memorial Book was provided at the door for those who wished to sign and Mr. J. Otto Beyer served as usher and Master of Ceremonies. After a 15 minute prelude by Mrs. Pearl Groesser the colors were presented by Farly Amick and L. Houseman representing the Legion and Clem Kirchoff and Lyle Thomassen representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pastor Campbell then stated that the purpose of everyone's presence there was to honor the memory of the late President who had also been Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces. He urged that those present also remember the family of the po lice officer killed at the same time in the performance of his duties and other men of the armed forces who were dying in the performance of their duty. Union Items Mrs. L. C. Todd A memorial service for Presi dent Kennedy was held at the Methodist Church with the American Legion in charge Mon day afternoon. The following program was presented: soft music, color bearers from the American Le gion, Star Spangled Banner, America, Preamble read by Marvin Attebery and Scripture read by Tom Easter, Address by the Rev. Arthur Hurder; vocal solo by Tom Easter, "Have Thine Own Way". Prayer, God Bless America, Folding of Flag, The Lord's Prayer. Mrs- Verl Ackley was organ ist. A Family Night Fellowship Supper was held at the Baptist Church last Sunday evening at 6:30 with a fine attendance. At the close of the supper, Tom Wolfe showed pictures of Canada and Alaska, which he had taken during a tour he had conducted during the late sum mer. Mrs. Lee Faris and Helen Warden of Lincoln were dinner guests of Mrs. Hugh Warden and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pike last Sunday. Mrs. Faris attended church services at the Methodist Church and also called on Nell and Pearl Bramblet Sunday aft ernoon. Mrs. Lillian Johnson of Lincoln who has been visiting her daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Verl Ackley, nturncd to her home last Thursday. Mrs. L. B. Mougey was a Sun day dinner guest of Mr. and Mis. Richard Mougey and Mary Jo. Mr. Ivan Beaumont of Nebras ka City conducted the Sunday morning service at the Meth odist Church as Rev- Hurder was a victim of flu. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Balfcur, Roy Dye and sister, Violet Dye, left Union last Thursday morn ing for California where they ex pert to spend several weeks. Irene and Iola Rich spent last Saturday with their mother, but returned to Omaha Saturday evening to their duties in nurses training at the Immanuel Hospi tal School of Nursing. Mrs. Nettie Mougey and Mrs. Nels Madsen drove to Eudora, Kans., last Tuesday where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reardon. They returned on Thursday evening. One-Side Parking Is Requested One-side parking has been re quested in the block of 1st Ave nue from 3rd to 4th Streets on Wlntersteen Hill. Councilman Raymond Smock relayed the request to the City Council Tuesday night. He said it would be a continuation of one-side parking on the east side of the street which extends from that point south. The request was referred to the Streets and Alleys Commit tee for study and recommenda tion. The Nixons will be guests Thanksgiving Day at the Kratky home. Mr. and Mrs. Marius Petersen of Syracuse were guests Sunday of the Kent Balfour family. The Balfour family spent Sunday evening at the Randall Seyfer home at Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. Deane Nutzman and family will spend Thanks giving Day with Mrs. Clifton Garrison at a family reunion. Mrs. Anna Schomaker, Mrs. Helen Weber, Lincoln attended the Junior class play Friday evening. The Ned Nutzman fam ily will spend Thanksgiving Day with Mrs. Schomaker. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pollard's Thanksgiving dinner guests will be Mr. and Mrs. Fred Samson, Council Bluffs and the Duane Campbell family of Omaha. Dr. and Mrs. L. N. Kunkel, Weeping Water; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn. Trombla, Oklahoma City were dinner guests Sunday of Mrs. Ona Kunkel. The Trombla's were her overnight guests. Everett White of Lincoln was dismissed from Lincoln General Hospital Thursday. He came to Nehawka to spend some time with his sister, Mrs. Oren Pol lard and Mr. Pollard. Mrs. Pol lard was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Lincoln and transferred to Nehawka when she was married. The Oren Pol lards are planning a family din ner Thanksgiving day. Miss Evelyn Wolph, Ruth Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Sch lichtemeier and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meisinger of Nehawka attended the 4-H banquet given by the bankers of Cass County to 4-H leaders and their assist ant leaders at the United Bre thren Church at Murdock. Miss Miller, Mr. Schlichtemeier re ceived their two year pins as leaders. Miss Agnes Arthaud of the University of Nebraska Birthday Party WEEPING WATER (Special) A birthday party was held at Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hanson's home, Nov. 23, in honor of their daughter Nevora's third birth day. Afternoon guests were: Mrs. Thomas Beins and Pamela, Mrs. Marvin Balfour and Sancfy, Mrs. William Riley and Randy, Mrs. James Sherman and Vicki, Nan cy Wilson, Mrs. Henry Christen sen the great-grandmother, Mrs. Vernon Duwe the grandmother, Mrs. Herbert Rhordanz, and her brother Curtis. ' The afternoon was spent play ing games. A birthday doll cake, made by Mrs. Kenneth Dokter, was served with ice cream and a cold drink. Nevora was the re cipient of many nice gifts. 3rd Birthday Party WEEPING WATER (Special) Nov. 22, the Hill-Top Nursing Home gave a party honoring Nevora Hanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hanson, on her third birthday. The guests were the residents of the home and all employees. Mrs. Rose Bryant made the roses for the table. Nevora's father took pictures of the party and also showed films of her past birthday's, and those taken on their trips. She received many nice gifts and everyone enjoyed it very much. Lunch was served by her great grandmother, Mrs. Henry Christensen and her grandmoth er, Mrs. Vernon Duwe. Other guests besides her par ents were: Mrs. Vernon Duwe, her grandmother, Mrs. Herbert f Rhordanz and Mrs. Matilda Markland. Phone 2708 spoke of her trip to Ireland and showed colored slides. Mrs. Kent Balfour attended the funeral of Mrs. Lizzie Mort at Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Harshman and Ron of St. Louis arrived Sat urday night for a weeks vaca tion with Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Harshman and Mr. and Mrs. El lis Lacy.
