Dwight Griswold Files for Governor Gordon Editor and Former Nom inee Will Make an Ac tive Campaign. Dwight Griswold of Gordon filed on luesciay as a republican candi date for governor. He was the- party nominee for that ofi'ice in 1932- 1934 and 1936, losing outTy narrow mar- ins in the face of ik-moeratic land slides. Griswold is 46 yeafs of age and is tditor of the Gordon Journal and a former president of- the Nebraska Press association: He is also a for mer state commander of the Amer ican Legion and seryVd three terms in "-the -rtaW senate from 1925 --to '29. He was bornY and raised in western Nebraska and is a university graduate. Present " Indications are that he will be the youngest of the republican candidates, lor governor. Mr. Griswold, in a statement is sued at the time of his filing, said: "There are many who have urged me to file for governor, saying that I deserve the nomination in 1940 when a republican victory is quite prob able because I- carried the banner through hard-fought battles when there was no chance to win. Others say that I have run too often." "Neither of these statements is en tirely true," continued Mr. Griswold. "The duty of republican voters in next April's primary is 1o choose that candidate who-is best able to make the necessary campaign fight and properly fill the office after he is elected. Public offices should not be passed out as rewards to deserving party workers honesty and ability should be the basis of the voter's de cision." "I do feel, however," said Mr. Griswold "that my previous cam paigns have been the finest possible training to prepare me to servo the people of Nebraska. I have cam paigned in 92 of the 93 counties of the state and have met personally about 100,000 of her citizens. There is no better way to learn of the needs and wants of the various sections."
