THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1939. PAGE FOTTB THE PLATTSMOUTH EYETOO JOTTOAX Passes Away Shortly After Death of Spouse ii - j Mrs. Peter Gakemeier of Louisville Dies at Omaha Hospital After a Prolonged Sickness. When death came to Mrs. Peter Gakemeier, well known Louisville woman on Wednesday, October 11, she followed her husband in eternal sleep by just one day short of two weeks. She had been ill for a year and most of that time had been a patient in an Omaha hospital, where she received the best of care and ev erything possible was done to make her last days comfortable. Amelia Louise Caroline Stroy, daughter of John and Johanna Stroy, was born in Port Washington, Wis consin, March 10, 1865, and was 74 years, 6 months and 1 day old at the time of her death. She came to Nebraska at the age of eleven in the spring of 1876. Eight years later, on June 26, 1884, she was married to Peter Gakemeier, who, as stated, passed away Thurs September 28 of this year. The Gakemeiers had lived in Louis ville 14 years, and prior to then on a farm near that time. Mrs. Gakemeier is survived by two sons, John and Herman, of Louisville, and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Bert rand of California; two brothers, John of Lincoln and Charlie of Mur dock; two sisters, Mrs. Conrad Baum gartner, Murdock, and Miss Anrfti Stroy, besides eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Gakemeier on Saturday, October 14, f t the Immanuel Lutheran church of which she was a member. Rev. H. G. Cattau conducted the services and in terment was in the Immanuel Luth eran cemetery. Pall bearer3 were Cecil Ilobbs, Robert Sweeten, Hubert Stroy, Albert Stroy, Paul Kupke and Louie Kupke. Bible School Sunday, November 5th "Righteousness in the Kingdom" Matt. 5:17-20; 38-45; 6:1-4. The term "the Kingdom" in this lesson is composed of souls that have yielded their life and service to God, submitted to His rule, are loyal sub jects who have come into this blessed state by the grace of God where God is the absolute Sovereign here on earth. In this kingdom, the subjects are ruled by certain laws and regula tions, which are not grieveous, but are easy, like His yoke. In order to understand the laws of the New Tes tament, Jesus quotes the old laws and their interpretations, which he had come to fulfill, thereby proving that man can live up to them, and then gives us the higher and deeper meaning. He sets up a higher stand ard for the subjects of His kingdom The underlying motive of the teach' ings of Jesus is the law of Love; the subjects of his kingdom claim that the love of God is shed abroad in their hearts by the Holy Ghost (Komans 5:5). This being the case, love is the ruling motive of the Chris tian. But we see Christians walk and act like the heathen, Do not con ruse the issue, Jesus says: "Ye are my disciples, if ye DO whatsoever tell you. (John 15:14). Not what ye confess, but what ye do is what counts. These new instructions were given to the future teachers and preachers, the apostles. A higher standard of life is expected of the followers of Christ than of the Scribes and Pharisees, and they were of the best in their time (See verse 20 in lesson). ; Who, for instance, could do all that is taught by Jesus, in verses 38 to 42, except he was filled with the spirit of Jesus Christ; who did all that and so fulfilled the law and the prophets. It is not an easy thing to love your enemies and pray for them that persecute you;, but Jesus did and so did Stephen and if we have not the spirit of Christ, we are none of His. (Romans 8:9). A3 the sermon on the mount con forms to the Decalogue, one table to God, the other our conducts to man, so the first part of our lesson deals with our conduct with our fellow man; the next part is our attitude in onr spiritual life between" us and God in our prayer life. In the lesson material (5:17; 6:18) we have the Lord exhort the disciples regarding their conduct in prayer. It should be just the opposite from what the Pharisees did. (See 6:5). Prayer is close communion with God; it con Annual Arbor Lodge District Scout Meeting Election of Officers and Other Busi ness at Business Session and . Dinner at Nebraska City Monday evening, November 6, at the Grand hotel in Nebraska City, ( there will be held the annual meet ing of Arbor Lodge district Scouters. Plattsmouth is planning on sending its entire troop committee, Scoutmas ter Larson and a number of other citizens who may be interested in ex panding the Scouting program here to this meeting. One of those famous 50 cent din ners is again promised made. pos sible because of a 25 cent subsidy on the partf the district officers and Scout supporters at Nebraska City. Principal business will be the an nual election of officers, but notices of the meeting state a fine program has been arranged. There will also be the usual re ports from the different troop com mittees of what has been accomplish ed during the past year. Indications are that the year 1940 will be Scouting's most promising year in the Cornhusker Council, of which Arbor Lodge district is a part. The greatest problem has been one of adult leadership the finding of men who are willing to give time to the Scouting program. The Platts mouth troop committee is proud of its Scoutmaster, Raymond Larson, whose long and faithful years as a Scoutmaster make him one of the deans of Scoutmasters in the Arbor Lodge district. A number have serv ed for longer periods in other lines of the work, but none in capacity of Scoutmaster where regular weekly attendance is required with a longer period of service than Raymond. E. H. Wescott, veteran Platts mouth Scouter, was at Grand Island last night to attend a special meeting Lesson Study! By I. Neitzel, Murdock, Neb. sists of supplications, prayers, inter cession and giving of thanks. (I Tim 1). Instead of the street corner, Jesus advises the closet. If man de sires to talk to God, the best place is in the closet. This does not mean to abolish prayer in public. Jesus was much alone with his Father in prayer; but we have heard him pray ing in public. A timely warning i3 given against vain repetitions in public prayers. Jesus says that it is heathenish. The most effective prayers in the scripture contain from three to seven words. Then we have a verse (5:38) that seem to be hard to interpret, and if properly left in, the connec tion is very easy to understand. No man will ever attain to the perfec tion of God, whose perfection is ab solute, while man's perfection is and always will be relatively. It is sad to say that men have become fanat ics, by teaching and preaching, that man can attain to a state of perfec tion in this life, that he "cannot' sin. This is a very dangerous doc trine, is not scriptural. Then there are those who teach a "second work of grace," which is also against the teaching of the scriptures. The Bible teaches us clearly that the Christian is a new creatur whn h is born again; and as a normal child grows to maturity not by stages but like a seed planted, a constant growth until ripe to be gar nered. In the abnormal we find the backslider, who may have a second, third of fourth blessing, but after all makes little progress in the devine life. As a child, we are as a child: when we grow to manhood, childish things are put away. (I Cor. 13:11). We find at county and state fairs, the perfect boy and .girl, etc. May we with Paul say: "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended reached the goal but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before." (Phil. 3:13). When the foregoing suggestions and teachings are fully understood and carried out, right eousness in the kingdom will have full sway. "Jesus shall reign, where e're the sun Does his soccesive journeys run. His kingdom spread from shore to shore Till moons shall wax and , wane no more." Blessed' are they that do his com mandments, that they may have right to the tree of life. (Rv. 23: 14). KNOCK FIRST!! I;' 1 j Ruth Vernon Caught en dishabille as she pre pares for one of the frank tableaux in the Marcus Show which comes to the Paramount, Omaha, Nov. 10 of the Cornhusker Council. There were seventy-five present and some very important plans were discussed which, if they materialize will mean a greatly enlarged Scouting program throughout the council. The com mittee appointed to investigate pos sibilities and bring in a recommen dation will report at another meet ing to be held in Lincoln on No vember 11. Those, who will go from here, to the district meeting at Nebraska City next Monday night include Elmer Webb, E. H. Wescott, E. G. Ofe, Fred Lugsch and J. A. Cap well, troop committee members; Raymond Lar son, Scoutmaster, and the following men not at present identified with the Scouting program: Elmer Sund- strom, Les Thimgan, Dr. W. V. Ryan and possibly one or two others who have not yet been contacted. With the fine cabin and other fa cilities here, Plattsmouth could eas ily have two or three active troops at a sponsorship cost no greater than is now being paid for one. It all re verts to the old problem of adult local leadership, more than the plac ing of additional field executives on the Council payroll. The Scouting program itself is the finest thing that has ever been de vised for training boys of Scouting age and the work accomplished here with one troop where there ought to be three proved so outstanding last year as to win for the local Le gion post as sponsoring organization the Dr. Arlo M. Dunn trophy at the Legion state convention. A New Dramatic Serial on KOIL THE ROMANCE OF HELEN TRENT The exciting adventures of a young American business woman.
