Last : Friday was a day long to

On thc morning that day ,
our genial Sheriff , John Hossack
drove to thc home of Mr. Long
1' and invited him to g-o with him
to a farm sonic four or five miles
distant. On their return to the
home ! , Mr. Long 1 was surprised to
find it in thc possession of 34 of
his fricnds.tl'o say that hc was
surprised is putting it mildly.
This surtrise party was in honor -
or of Mr. Long-'s 62nd b 1 thclay.
While there thc ladies busied
themselves sewing carpet rags ,
sewing 256 lbs ; thc men folks
talked crops and politics. l\lr.
. Long was thc recipient of many

; useful presents , among them being -

Tuesday evening was a joyous

date , after which an election of

home near Preston , of heart trou-
ble and Brig-h t's disease , on Fri-
day , December 2 , C)04. . For several -
cral years he has been a g-relt
sufferer from the maladies which
terminated his life He has becn
a patient at thc Mercy hospital
most of the summer and everything -
thing possible to restore his hcalt h

Kaiser has been the same patient ,
Christian gentleman hh friends
have always known. Anxious : to
recover if possible , but ready to

Gustavc Kaiser , or Gus as hc
was familiarly and affectionately
known to his friends , was born in
thc state of Illinois on April. 1st ,
1859. Hc came to Richardson
county ill 1868 , where hc has

was married in this county to

Her Only Sin.
Theatre goers of halls City and
vicinity were given a rare treat
at The Gch1in : Monday night
when Lincoln Cartcr's company
headed by Miss Julia Gray , presented -
scnted "Her Only Sin " There
was not a dull moment throughout -
out the entire play , thc different
scenes carrying thc large audi-
encc from thc ludicrous ] to thc
pathetic and back again with
such speed as to make it difficult
to distinguish tears of sympathy
from those caused by too excessive
laughter Miss Julia Gray ns an
emotional actress has seldom if
ever been cqual1cd on thc local
stage , and her support was all
that could bc wished for. Tak-
cn all in all , "Her Only Sin"
gave universal satisfaction.
