I Richardson County Teachers' Institute [ Continued from former pagc. ] McMurr , of the Ott Schools of Expression , Chicago , will address . the teachers on the subject , "The i Better Personality" . Orthoepy will be emphasized. Each teacher who feels the need of this work should take either Orthoepy with Prof. Hoff or Primary Reading with Miss Newell. It is quite certain that Nebraska teachers will have to pass an ex ami nation in Vocal Music in the near future. \Ve desire to pre- pare the way for the teachers of Richardson County , not only that they may learn to read music , but that they may be prepared to teach it in accordance with the latest and most advanced ideas. Already many of our teachers are doing good work in vocal " mnsic. : Mrs. H. P. Richmond , who is a specialist in : this line of work will present the subject. Picture Study. All have been delighted with the work in this subject during the past two years and the county superintendent has been urged to have a class in Picture Study dur- ing the coming institute. Miss Martha Pierce of Lincoln a specialist in this line of work will have charge of the art ex- hibit and present the subject of picture study. The good results of the last twe. ears work in this , . . ! . . . . . - - - - . . - . . . . . . . , - - , . . . ; . : . . . . . . - : : . . . . line are seen in nearly' every school house in the county. The ; tudy of pictures is a subject : strongly urging its claim upon the teachers of today. By Pic- ture study is meant learning to appreciate the master piece in art which have stood the sever- est test of critics and still have their messages of the true , the beautiful and the good to convey to us as in days of yore. The Art Exhibit. The art exhibit will have been prepared at considerable labor and expense and will again bring within the reach of cur teachers reproductions of the greatest treasures of art ' Exhibit of School Work This has become . . . . a permanent feature of our institute. Prof J. \ Watson of Verdon will have charge of this work. Teachers who have not already sent work for this exhibit are urged to do so.Ve hope to have each school in the county represented in , this exhibit. The district number should be on each piece of ex- hibit. The work will be returned - ed to the schools. Two classes in Grammar will be offered ; one , Beginning Meth- ods , and the other only Diagram- ming , and Analysis. Longwell's methods will be' presented : ; , Teachers who wish to take either . . . . - - - ' . . . - . - - - - - of these classes should bring a copy of Lou gwell's Grammar if they have it. Two classes in Arithmetic will be offered ; one Written and the other Men tal. . Letter Writing. Teachers in commercial schools , county superintendents and fn fact all experienced teachers as well as business men lament that this subject , all important as it is , is greatly neglected , not only in our common schools , but also in Normal and Commercial Colleges. The object of this course will be to emphasize and drill on the mechanical part of letter writing and at the same time give careful attention to the composition-the English work. Each teacher taking this work will be expected to write letters each day. These letters will be corrected , blue marked , returned to the teachers and discussed in class. Prine Osher Schlaifer will have charge of this work. There will be a short business meeting of the Richardson County 'Teachers' Association at the close of the opening exercises Tuesday morning. - : This will be held early in the week that the pro- gram committee may have time to prepare the program for the , next meeting before the close of . the institute. i The Teachers Reading Circle Work selected for , Richardson . County during the coming year . - . - . ' . - - - - - - - - - - . consists of "Common Sense Didacties" by Henry Sabin , "The . . . , . , , . . . , - Pathfinder" and 'rhe Nebraska - Teacher"- supply of books will be on hand at the institute. Each teacher in the county is urged to do the Reading Circle ' ' Work. ' - Each member of the institute is : expected t9 keep a record of the doings from day to day in an institute note book furnished for that pnrpose. Close application and good , work in class will be recognized and due allowance made in mak- ing up the grades at the close of -.J institute. - High school pupils and all who expect to teach within the . next year or two will find themselves much benifitted by attending the institute. .
