to devise if possible sonic means
by which rough co-operation ,
the water plane of the valley can
be lowered in order that in the
future the disastrous results of
thc occasional floods may be eli.m-
inatcd.
'l'hc convention decided to
adopt the plan under which 13m' ,
Washington and Douglas counties
arc now working , that is to file a
petition and hond with the county
clerk as provided for in Article 1
Chap S9 Compiled statutes 11)03.
At this convention were repre-
scntat'cs , intelligent business
men , whether owners of bottom
lands or not. Some were owners
of uplands , some were from Otoe
county , sonic were newspaper
mcn. Otoe county people then
called a drainage convention to
convene at Syracuse , in their
county July 22.
One very pleasing thing in this
convention was noticable that
there were no classes of men either
members of thc county board or
others who have caught an in-

Some eight or ten lads ranging
in age from seven to fifteen years ,
were placed under arrest a few
days since charged with stealing
beer from the store house belong-
ing to Jas. B. a'ds. All thc
lads pleaded guilty and were
assessed a fine of one dollar and
costs cach.
George Adkin and Mabel Pool
experienced a runaway accident
Sunday evening which came near
resulting very , seriously. The
lines broke and the horses start-
ed to run , Mr. Adkin being
thrown out and under the whcels.
Miss Pool jumped from the bug-
gy and was quite badly bruised
up but suffered no permanent
injury. The buggy was quite
badly demolished
