home from Falls City last 1'ues-
day , accompanied by Rosa Ket-
tercr , had the misfortune to have
a small runaway , resulting in
Herman having to walk home in
the mud and secure a rig to take .

A word to the public in regard
to the right of way : It would be
well for drivers of vehicles to remember -
member that all U. S. mail car-
ries have the right of way in the
public highway when on duty.
They cannot bc driven into the
ditches by heavy loaded wagons : : :
without violating the mail law ;
and if a collision happens by so
doing and the mail delayed it
will not be long thereafter until
deputy U. S. marshall will be
looking for certain parties who
will answer to roll call at a . n. . S.
court. This law applies not only
when meeting a vehicle , but ap-
plies to those ahead of the mail
as well , when the mall makes an
effort to pass.

Waterloo have been visiting for
a few days with relatives here.
'l'he former returned to Waterloo
Tuesday afternoon , but his wife
will remain for a whilc.
Mike Clancy was arrested last
Tuesday for wife beating. lie
was found guilty of assault and
fined thirty dollars and costs. In
default of payment , he was taken
to the county jail in Falls City.
Newton Hedge came from Col-
orado Springs Tuesday on busi-
ness connected with his mothcr's
estate. He expects to return
soon. Both he and his mother

have enjoyed much better health
since ther have sidcd in Colo-
rado.
