REPUBLICAN CAUCUS.
The republican voter of North
Barada and South Harada pre-
cinct are hereby called to meet
in caucus in the village of .Barada
at two o'clock in the afternoon of
\Vednesday , March 16th for the
purpose of selecting nine (9) ( ) del-
cgates from North .Barada and
nine (9) ( ) delegates from South
Barada , to represent said pre-
cincts at the county convention
to be held at halls City on Thurs-
day. : March 17 , and to transact
such other business as may come
before the caucus. -

CONCERNING JACK CROOK
Much indignation ' has been expressed -
pressed among the republicans
over the renewal of the Jcurnal's
unwarranted attacks on G. J.
Crook , the county chairman. It
was the hopc. of the republicans !
of this county that the coming
campaign would find the Journal
the same old republican paper
that it used to be , and-tbr. : announcement -
nouncement through its own col-
umns , that such was not to be
the case , was a disappointment to
the republicans , to say the least.
Without discussing existing
factional differences , or without
reference to Chairman Crook's attitude -
titude in these matters , The Tri-
bune believes that it voices the
sentiments of all the loyal repub-
licans of this county when it pro-
tests against these attacks.
-
? \ Ir. Crook is not the chairman
of a faction-he is chairman of
the party because he was placed
there by a republican convention
composed of delegates from all
parts of the county. Last fall
there was held in this city one of
the most representative republican -
can conventions that ever con-
\'cned in the county and that con-
vention reelectedr. . Crook
chairman of the county central
committee. Held he been as false
to the best interests of the party
as his traducers would have us
believe , would the party have
again placed him in a position of
such great trust and responsibility -
ity ? Fast fall IVIr. Crook con-
ducted a vigorous and masterful
campaign and led the republican
hosts of this county to victory.
'rhe party realizes this and it is
not the party that is today heap-
ing vilification upon him. But
the injury inflicted by such war-
fare will ] } not be sustained by : Mr.
Crook alone. An attack on the
chairman 'and his committeemen
is an attack on the party. . It is
an attempt to divide.the party
against itself ; it tends to sow ( lis-
cord where harmony should pre-
vail and to that extent it lessens
the chances of party success in
the coming contest.
Nell , the committee meeting
was held and no " snap judg-
ments" were taken. Everything
was open and above board . and
unless the enemies within the
party get in their work , there
will meet in this city on l\Iarch
17 , a harmonious republican con-
vention that will act for the best
good of the party.

Judge Tucker.
From thc Dawson Newsboy.
Judge E. A. Tucker of Ilu mm-
boldt was in town yestC'rday.
After a great deal of persuasion
on the part of many prominent
republicans of this senatorial dis-
trict , Judge Tucker has finally :
consented to become a candidate
for state senator this fall. This
should be good news to the rank
and file of the party who believe
in honoring those who have ren-
lered effective service to the par-
ty at a time when help was need-
ed. . Everyone who knows the
Judge knows that he has in many
instances sacrificed his personal
ambitions in order that he might
be in a better position to assist in
.carrying- his party to victory. tl'he
thorough organization of the republican -
.
publican party hr this county
during the last three campaigns
and the success with which they
have been carried on is in a great
measure due to his untiring ef-
forts and good management. It
is early yet to make predictions
in matters concerning politics but
we believe that no stronger man
ould be named by the republi-
- -
tans of this senatorial district
than Judge E. A. Tucker of
Hum boldt.
