REASONABLE RATES
If a company gives good service earns only enough to
maintain its plant tp to recognized standards of efficiency to
provide for reconstruction cost when worn out or obsolete
and pays only a fair dividend to its shareholders then the
Companys rates are fair and reasonable
Rates in many cases may appear unfair because the reas
ons for various changes are misunderstood In every case
our rates are based on the results of scientific investiga
tion after years of expert study of the various problems en
tering into rate making
Telephone rates in various communities must differ because
of the conditions that enter into rate computations varying
in given localities Telephone operation is different from near
ly any other in this the greater the extent of service the
higher the unit cost
This peculiarity of telephone charges -will be discussed in
the next article in this paper
