tonnage rating of R 4 R o S l S 2
engines on the Burlington from Ak
ron to Oxfcrd and Red Cloud is 4000
tons

Trainmen of Country
Harrisburg Pa May 11 Wages
of the trainmen in the United States
and Canada have been increased 37
000000 in one year according to the
report made to the international con
vention of the brotherhood of rail
road trainmen by W G Lee presi
dent of the brotherhood This is the
first statement to be made of the
great wage increasing movement in
1910 and covered every section of
the country President Lees state
ment was one of the reports of the
grand lodge officers presented by
Peter OHearn It reviewed various
matters occurring last year and ad
vocated more safety devices

of the McCook mills an institution
which his father G E Hotchkin
of this city recently purchased from
E H Doan of McCook The McCook
milling concern is one of the most
prosperous of its class in west Ne
braska and felicitations are cordially
extended to Mr Hotchkin on having
secured so valuable a property and
equally McCook is to be congratulat
ed in having an experienced miller
of Mr Hotchkins ability and enter
prise succeed Mr Doan who is a
pioneer in Red Willow county Min

The new summer schedule of the
Burlington will become effective on
May 2S at which time the Burling
ton will extend the runs of Ncs
9 and 10 to Denver while they now
run only to Oxford On the new
schedule No 10 will leave Lincoln
for the east about 1215 a m and
will run over the old main line avoid
ing Omaha No 0 will leave Lincoln
for the west earlier than at present
probably about 105am
The preliminary but official an
nouncement of the changes from Gen
eral Passenger Agent Wakeley says
The following will give you an ap
proximate description of new train
service effective May 2S
Train No 9 will be extended to
Denver running on last years sched
ule arriving in Denver at 100 p
m This train will make only the
slops that were made last summer
No 10 This train will leave Den
ver and run through on the same
schedule as last year arriving Chi
cago at 225 p m It will not run
through Omaha and it will make only
the stops that were made last sum
mer in order to connect with the
Pennsylvania Limited train at 245
p m
No 152 will run as last year con
necting at Sterling with 04 and at
Holdrege with No 10
No 43 can leave Lincoln earlier
as No 0 will arrive Lincoln earlier
There will be no change in the
present schedule of No 13
NEW CHICAGO OFFICE BUILDING
Burlington is to Construct a Great
Office Home
Chicago May 13 Announcement
has been made by the management ol
thu Burlington of plans for the erec
tion of the largest building in the
United States devoted exclusively by
one railroad to office purposes It
wiV be at the southwest corner of
lackson boulevard and Clinton street
and will cost 1380000
The building will be a modern fire
proof structure fourteen stories in
height and will have two and one
half times the amount of square feet
available for occupancy that is con
tained in the companys present of
fice building at 209 Adams street
It will have a frontage of 152 feet on
Jackson boulevard and 175 feet on
Clinton street a total of 24000 squar
feet of ground space
Amount paid for site was 380000
making the total investment 1760
000 The site is occupied by the
building of the Stromburg Carlson
telephone manufacturing company
which will be wrecked in order to
make way for the new structure
The proposed building will have
200000 square feet of available office
space as compared with 75000
square feet in the present headquart
ers of the company
It is expected that the task of tear
ing down the Stromburg Carlson
building will begin about July 1 and
that the new office home of the Bur
lington wil ae ready for occupancy
next spring

at 11 oclock Afternoon train will
leave Denver at 3 oclock and arrive
at Lyons at 5 oclock This train
will be daily except Sunday
The Sunday train service from
Denver in the morning and back in
the afternoon will be inaugurated

dist Brotherhood in an appealing
stirring manner

tic work of the chapter was then ex
