o population or Hoiurege w
show a little 3000 people says the
Hastings Democrat prophet
700 From Sioux City
To the Dahlmanites of Douglas let
us pay our meed of thanks
For the trouble and confusion in the
democratic ranks
Said the mayor to his people as he
burned the midnight glim
We must all of us get busy if we win
this fight said Jim
So they sent across the river for two
regiments of toughs
Seven hundred from Sioux City and
the rest from Council Bluffs
In this fight we are waging if our
enemies we trim
We must have the votes to beat them
theres no other way said Jim
So he called the clans together and
he lifted off the lid
And he listened while they told him
all the things that should be did
All believed to win the battle much
depended on the roughs
Seven hundred from Sioux City and
the rest from Council Bluffs
Then Jim Dahlman blew his whistle
and it struck the further shore
And the men who heard his whistle
left the valleys and the hills
For they felt twas safe to answer
when the brewers pay the bills
Yes they came across the river to
assist the local toughs
Seven hundred from Sioux City and
the rest from Council Bluffs
Bix
Drawback
The Alpine guide waxed eloquent
Behold he cried yon beetling
crags They beetle for everybody
though sneered the rich American
and sullenly spat In token of his dis
content It was not true however
that he lacked appreciation of the
beautiful and the sublime provided
these were costly and exclusive
Puck
The Unemployed
The legislation of the thirteenth
fourteenth and fifteenth centiurlei
abounds in bills concerning the unem
ployed In the reign of Edward VL
several laws were passed against
idlers most of them such because
they could get nothing to do In tha
reign of Henry VIII the kingdom wat
Infested with rogues vagabonds
and idle persons and It is s i that
during Henrys reign more than 70000
of this unfortunate class were hanged
