Victim of Terrible Accident
Tuesday of last week while stack
ing hay on his farm east of Hayes
Center L A Blatchley was knocked
off the stack by the stacker fall
ing onto the upright handle of a
pitch fork near the stack The
handle of the fork penetrated his
body in the region of his stomach
fully twelve inches He was hurried
to McCook in an auto and a special
ist was summon d from Omaha He
was operated upon but died on last
Thursday night The remains were
taken to Hayes Center Friday and
after services were held the remains
were laid away in the cemetery at
that place

Word from California announces th
death of Mrs E H Walters a former
resident of McCook but who for the
past seven years has lived in Cali
fornia Husband and five children
survive the youngest a babe but a
few days old

Masons Observe Memorial Sunday
The members of McCook lodge No
Uo observed Memorial Sunday by
attending services in the Methodist
church last Sunday morning
Rev Bryant Howes sermon was
on The Temple in History and
contained many Masonic allusions of
interest It was a worthful and in
structive effort and lacked nothing of
appreciation
The music came from a large choir
and was an enjoyable feature of a
service which filled the edifice with
worshippers

Dr James Hart was one of the in
terested parties in a lively runaway
Saturday afternoon His horse be
came frightened at a baby cart
Both horse and vehicle suffered some
damage but the doctor and his com
panion escaped without injury

Her Brief Span of Life
was brief indeed too brief to ac
quire the wise habit of cash buying
Her husbands check was always ap

He had earned 12500 per month for
the last 15 years when they carried
him home and after his affairs were
settled there remained 16500 of his
insurance money She died of grief
within a week Her last words were

Music Sketches Etc
JOINT INSTALLATION BY LODGE AND STAR
Hall is Handsomely Decorated for the Auspicious Occasion Which
is Largely Attended and Keenly Enjoyed by AH
The twenty fifth anniversary of
the institution of McCook lodge No
135 A F A M was befittingly
observed last Friday evening by
the membership
The observance opened with a ban
quet at six oclock It was spread
at three long tables in the banquet
room and offered every attraction to
the lovers of substantials and
dainties in the culinary art
Music was provided by an orchestra
during the early part of the evening
and during repast
A series of toasts followed the
banquet Lon Cone acting as substi
tute toastmaster for J F Forbes
who though compelled to be absent
left in verse a clever introduction to
each of those responding Mrs Z
L Kay Mrs George Willetts Mr
J A Wilcox and Rev Bryant Howe
were among those on the toast list
their remarks were much appreciat
ed
Mrs C W Britt captivated all with
a spring song and responded with
an encore in lighter vein Mrs
Britts occasional vocal offerings are
always richly enjoyed
Mr F M Kimmell read a brief
historical sketch of McCook lodge
No 135 A F A M
Following a most acceptable vio
lin solo by Mrs Vahue came the
public installation of the officers of
No 135 Zaccheus L Kay was in
stalling officer Justin A Wilcox
grand chaplain and M O McClure
grand marshal
A selection by the Acacia club and
a duet by Misses Viersen and Rose
bush were very favorably received
Seth S Silver read a paper on the
history of Eureka chapter No 86
Order of the Eastern Star
Following which the officers of
the chapter were duly installed Mrs
C W Wilson acting as installing of
ficer Mrs A C Wiehe as grand
conductress and F M Kimmell as
grand chaplain
Selections by the Acacia club con
cluded the formal program of the
evening which will be a memorable
event in the history of both lodge
and chapter
Both lodge room and banquet hall
were lavishly decorated with nat
ional colors flags galore and
streamers Two special pieces
were the square and compass and
the five pointed star both done in
appropriate colors and design

Wilson Wersig Wedding
On Sunday afternoon at 3 oclock
at the home of Mr and Mrs J B
Wilson on the Morlan ranch occurred
a quite wedding when their daughter
Miss Nellie B Wilson was united in
marriage to Mr William Wersig of
Champion Neb The bride was
beautifully gowned in white A very
brief and impressive marriage cere
mony was read by Rev Francis EI
lams of the Baptist church making
them husband am wife They left
on Monday morning op an early train
for Champion where they will make
their home Many friends unite in
wishing them joy and success in life

grain is reported fair but late grain
is smutty or none at all
Emil Elbert was hurt last Satur
day morning by falling from a tree
and striking his back on a piece of
binder attachment rendering him un
concious for about thirty minutes
He is all O K now being able to
go see his girl the next day
S Hughes had an exciting runa
way Monday when four horses ran
away with his binder There was no
serious damage done
Ella Schuetz is suffering with an
abcess of the throat
Jacob Degele unloaded his new
threshing rig Monday
